"Gremlins" Reboot May Finally HappenPosted: January 17th, 2013 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
NY Magazine has learned that Warner Bros is currently in negotiations with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment company to reboot the 1984 horror comedy "Gremlins."
This isn't the first time we're hearing of a "Gremlins" reboot, but apparently each time a deal was attempted, Spielberg made it too expensive for anyone to be interested. Now, apparently, things are different. And it's actually looking good that a "Gremlins" reboot may finally happen.
The original 1984 film was produced by Spielberg and directed by Joe Dante. It went on to gross $153 million domestically. The sequel followed six years later, grossing only $41 million.

Absolutely ridiculous...this is going to fail in any capacity. Why they just can't leave the classic alone?

No one wanted a Gremlins sequel back in 1990, Just don't see the point of rebooting the franchise now !
No way they can improve on Gremlins, It's one of the great family movies from the 80's and they should leave well alone.

Don't really see a need to reboot this. Other than greedy studios looking to cash in on something that will probably be crappy, of course.

This news is bullsh*t. Spielberg has already ruled on the matter, recently, when he said any Gremlins sequel, remake, reboot would need his imprimatur, contractually speaking, and he's not giving it. Ever. Period. End of story.

I agree that Gremlins probably doesn't need to be revisited but the idea of reboot is not a new idea, guys. Stage plays get "rebooted" every year and there's even a Tony category for it (Best Revival). Different directors bringing new visions to the table can be a good thing (John Carpenter's The Thing, for example) but I'd have to agree that, more often than not, we wind up with something like the "New" The Thing.
