"SHIELD" TV Series Takes Place After "The Avengers," Agent Coulson to Return

"SHIELD" TV Series Takes Place After "The Avengers," Agent Coulson to ReturnSubmit Comment
It was already announced that Clark Gregg will return to play Agent Phil Coulson in Marvel's upcoming "SHIELD" TV series, making many wonder whether the show will take place before or after "The Avengers.

Now, during an interview with IGN, ABC President Paul Lee revealed that the series takes place after the movie. "There is no question that it is part of the Marvel Universe," he said. "In fact, the story takes place after the battle for New York."

It's still unclear how Coulson will be brought back, especially since Lee said that the show is part of the same world that "The Avengers" is in. "[They have] their own particular stories. There are characters in it, Coulson, who clearly come from 'Avenger,'" he explained. "So it's part of the world, but we're going to be very, very careful that we don't tread on the toes of the features."

The pilot episode will begin filming later this month. Joss Whedon (The Avengers) is set to direct.

Knew they wouldnt let him stay dead. Especially after the fan reaction to the possibility. Marvel sees dollar signs in coulson. So why not make a show around him?

I didn't think he died anyway.

no one character in movies or comics is died

Bet you he's a clone. Probably thousands of him waiting in line. One dies, another takes his place. Something like that. Problem solved.

Besides, I think Marvel is starting wear out their welcome. I give this show maybe a season or two and it'll be gone, probably before Avengers 2, just in time to be disavowed as non-canon.

Eh, he's probably just going to be in some flashback or a "some years ago" set up scene. Maybe in the beginning, I'm thinking more in the middle.

^^You're probably right. Bet he appears for like a few scenes in the pilot only, just to launch the show and connect it to the film.

it was never actually verified he died in the movie, Fury just said hes down they are calling it which could of been a ruse by fury due to the situation and all they were in just to get the team to mesh better. The movie was fantastic no reason why this wont be either

"which could of been a ruse by fury due to the situation and all they were in just to get the team to mesh better"

Well, yeah. That's what Fury said to Maria Hill upon her learning that the bloody cards were not in his jacket, but rather in his locker.

Could be. But the death scene seemed pretty conclusive to me. Unless Whedon just likes writing characters that seemingly die, only to say that the final breath Coulson took before his body went all limp and doe-eyed was just him acting on behalf the "plan". Ruse. Whatever.

Stupid, unnecessary. Considering there was maybe one other person in the room besides Coulson and Fury.

I read somewhere that he could become Vision for the Avengers 2?? Maybe they will set the tv-show for that.
