"Fifty Shades of Grey" Writer Expects NC-17 Rating, Says Film is Raunchy

"Fifty Shades of Grey" Writer Expects NC-17 Rating, Says Film is RaunchySubmit Comment
Focus Features is moving forward with a big screen adaptation of EL James' "50 Shades of Grey" book by hiring Kelly Marcel ("Terra Nova") to write the script. But since the book has so many graphic sex scenes, many believe the studio will not be able to make a faithful adaptation, unless they make a porn film.

In a recent interview with Marcel, the writer revealed that the script will not tone down the content of the book. "There is going to be a lot of sex in the film. We are 100% going there," he said in an interview. "It will be NC-17. It's going to be raunchy."

Focus Features paid $5 million just to get the rights to the book, so it would love to avoid an NC-17 rating. Many theater chains refuse to show NC-17-rated films, making it a huge risk for any studio. But Focus has done it before.

Back in 2007, the studio released Ang Lee's "Lust, Caution" as an NC-17 film. It never got a wide release and ended up grossing only $4 million in the US on a $15 million budget. Overseas, however, it brought in another $63 million, eventually becoming profitable. Fox Searchlight recently did the same thing with Michael Fassbender's "Shame," and also had to rely on international box office to make any money.

But if there was ever a movie that needed to be NC-17, it's "50 Shades of Grey." And a decision to make it R-rated may actually end up hurting it. Stay tuned.

As long as the female lead has a big natural bosom, it will be epically profitable, believe you me!

If they cast Emma Stone, it will definitely bomb then.

Just make it into a porno on some website and get it over with. Why would any sane person pay $15 to see Cinemax softcore sh*t when hardcore is online for free.

Everything is in the erotic subtleness rather than raw free pointless sex...

Recently saw the brazilian film Antonio Das Mortes by Glauber Rocha, what a f*cking little epic film.

Ah, f*ck Hollywood, they should do a faithful adaptation of any of the books by the Marquis De Sade, cause Quills doesn't really count on that, although the final necrophiliac dream sequence was quite something...

...if they want to redeem themselves.

Just kidding, of course.

They hired the writer of Terra Nova?
Well, f*ck my butt and call me Kevin Clash, that is just a swell combination.

I expect this film to be a marvel of filmmaking!

From the last 3 women I've banged that have read it, I gather it should be rated R.

Why to lose substance and go for the $'s and masses Hollywood, you f*cking whore.

One word: Verhoeven.

And if they really want this f*cker to sell, they need to convince a hot-ass actress who has yet to show some serious skin (Portman, Kunis, Johansson, Winstead, take your pick) to all hardcore ...for the “art” of it, naturally.

No bullsh*t: if the general filmgoing public hears the words "Fifty Shades of Grey", "Scarlett Johansson" and "NC-17" in the same sentence ...well, so long, Avatar.

Any female actor they get to play the lead female role will be hated and despised for the rest of there film career if they can pull Anastasia off. She was a c*nt in the book and a complete and utter bitch 80% of the time.

lol. Dude can't have it both ways. What does he want? The holy cow rating of PG-13 and yet still include all the debauchery? Good luck with that one bud. I can see it now: precise, surgical edits that technically include all the sex scenes but none of the actual sex.
