Ricky Gervais previously said that if his 2009 comedy "The Invention of Lying" wasn't a hit, he would quit acting in movies. The film ended up being far from a hit, but now comes word that the actor is planning to return to the big screen.
THR has learned that Gervais is in negotiations to star in Disney's "The Muppets" sequel as the lead human character. His exact role, however, has not been disclosed. Gervais actually shot a cameo for the first movie, but it ended up being cut out.
At this point, "The Muppets 2" already has Ty Burrell ("Modern Family") onboard as a lazy inspector. James Bobin, who directed the 2011 movie, is back to helm. The plan is to begin filming in January. Jason Segel will not return.
