David Cronenberg Explains Why "The Fly" Remake Didn't Happen

Posted: December 15th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
David Cronenberg Explains Why "The Fly" Remake DidnSubmit Comment
About a year ago, David Cronenberg confirmed that he will be remaking his own "The Fly" movie. But a month later, he said that the project will likely not happen, despite the fact that he's already written a script.

Cronenberg now revealed that 20th Century Fox were never interested in "The Fly," and turned it down immediately after he pitched it to them. "It wasn't really a remake, it was more of a sequel or a [spin-off]," he explained. "None of the same characters [would return and it would be made with] an understanding of modern technology."

He added: "It was a budget problem. [But] it was something I was very pleased with, and it was a disappointment not to get it made."

I think the Goldblum version was headf*cking weird enough without your Byzantine bizarre take on the story, Dave.

Love that movie. Goldblum was Brundlefly forever after that. Perfect style of weird for it.

I miss the days of Brundl Fly throwing up acid on things to get a bite to eat.

Yep. That's how they eat. They vomit digestive juices and then suck them up with their proboscis.

The fly, God's masterpiece of beauty.

It's a sad commentary on society, but this could also be a description of some porn.

i actually thought that the single creepiest scene in the entire movie was the part in which he's describing "insect politics" to the geena davis character. that had more impact on me than anything else in the film, even the "vomit on the ex-boyfriend" scene.

i usually like cronenberg's stuff, but his freud/jung movie did nothing for me.

so if

I just recently saw the guy who played Davis' boss in a new film. Can't remember the film, but I was shocked he was in it.

Cronenberg's The Fly is an amazing and gruesome and weird f*cking movie and one of the very best from the 80s.

What was really absurd though was when Heroes decided to TOTALLY f*ckING COPY IT for several episodes when Mohinder was basically Seth Brundle.

The first season of Heroes was like dating an incredibly hot and sexy woman who was interesting and made you happy and also f*cked you all the time.

Season 2 onwards was like she had been in a car accident, burned, disfigured, lost her hearing and ability to speak but you still cared about her and didn't want to let her go.

After 3 more years of trying she just died and you were very relieved and still remember those first 9 months you were dating her and she was fanastic before she became all f*cked up.

David Cronenberg Explains Why "The Fly" Remake Didn't Happen

"because most if not all of the remakes or reboots today turn into utter sh*t, I have decided not to make "The Fly" be part of those"

I think that's what he meant to say.

Can anyone explain why this article happened?
