Ian McKellen's Agent Says Actor Does NOT Have CancerPosted: December 13th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
While promoting "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," Ian McKellen told The Daily Mirror that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer about six years ago. He went on to say that he still has it, but the cancer is not spreading and is not considered life-threatening.
Now comes word from McKellen's agent Chris Andrews that the actor doesn't have cancer. "No, he does not have prostate cancer," Andrews told ABC News. "That was taken out of context and from an interview from years ago."
In reality, McKellen made the statements just a few days ago and nothing was taken out of context. He actually said: "I've had prostate cancer for six or seven years." The entire interview was actually quite lengthy and the actor mentions having cancer several times. So what's really going on?
The reason why Andrews is lying is because he's trying to protect his client. Almost all productions need to be insured in case something unexpected happens that could hurt the film, like an actor getting sick or dying. By stating that he has cancer, McKellen is making it difficult for him to get hired, because insurance companies may refuse to insure him, or they may charge more than the studio is willing to pay.

The interview was taken out of context in that McKellen was talking about a prostate massage, not prostate cancer.

Just got back from The Hobbit. Wow, that High Framerate 3D is freaky. I absolutely hated it at first, but then your eyes adjust, and it works well for the movie.
The movie itself was pretty good, although it did seem a little drawn out.
All in all, a welcome return to Middle Earth.

@Mink Never read any of the books, and it took me to watch The Two Towers to fully appreciate The Fellowship of the Ring. I am a fan of the trilogy. I think this new movie will again be more appreciated in the context of the completed Hobbit Trilogy, as a standalone movie, it works, but kinda want more.
