Brad Bird Finally Responds to "Star Wars: Episode 7" Rumors

Good news and bad news in a sense. If Bird had directed, Michael Giacchino would have likely scored the film, which would have been awful. So that's good.

Yet Bird is an accomplished and clever (enough) filmmaker in his own right, but also a filmmaker with no personal style that would have intruded upon the Star Wars house style.

Ultimately, though, this likely means that Disney will go with an unknown, or lesser known journeyman director, which is the best chance any new Star Wars movie has for not sucking or being completely robbed of its identity.

Michael Giacchino...the guy who did LOST and Super 8 and UP...would be terrible?

@Cannon, Michael Giacchino is one of the best composers out there right now. However, I agree he would not be a good fit for Star Wars.

Let's face it, if anyone other than John Williams scores this, it will be a disaster.

As for Brad Bird,wasn't to keen on that idea anyway.

Best to go with an indie director who knows how to make a movie without much CGI

I doubt Williams will return. He is 80+ years old now, and I just don't see him wanting to do three more. Maybe the seventh one, but that's it.
I'm now thinking the directing gig is gonna go to a "paint by the numbers" guy, someone with no flair or oomph by the camera. It will be a shame if that happens, because that's exactly what Lucas was as a director. I understand
the need to have these new films fit in
the same universe as the previous in look
and feel. But here is an opportunity to
have new filmmakers with immense
talent bring this trilogy to a whole new level, a real reigniting of the franchise, similar to what Abrams did with Trek. They have a great screenwriter in Arndt, which gives me hope. But if they fail to get a top-tier director, for a freaking Star Wars film for christ's sake, then it's a letdown

I really wish these annoying 'fans' would mind their own business and let Disney do what Disney does.

Seems like there's always some sad group of unemployed losers trying to waste their free time harassing directors and actors into doing their bidding.

And Lindelof. Hmmmm. Another sci-fi project. Oh boy. I can see the future plot holes from here, and with a title that harkens back to the failed Spielberg film, you know Bird has a sure winner on his hand, especially when Disney is doing the underwriting.

As for Disney and Star Wars, one of two outcomes are possible. Either they f*ck Star Wars up so profoundly they make all of us wish nostalgically for the halcyon days of The Phantom Menace, or they effectively reboot the franchise in such a way it will forever and ever be enshrined as an enduring pop-cultural staple of mainstream film, even more so than now.

I don't kick them, That just scatters the ants, but I do stomp on the colony hive to see how they react.

Some would claim that's an act of cold, callous cruelty, but look at it this way: ants are tiny, and hard to crush among the dirty rubble of their ruined mound empire, and also, I feel that I give them something to do with their seemingly endless free time between endless cycles of colony death and rebirth.

In that way, and much like littering, I consider myself a "job creator".
