First Look: Tom Hanks as Walt Disney in "Saving Mr. Banks"Submit Comment
Tom Hanks is portraying Walt Disney in the upcoming "Saving Mr Banks" movie, and has been spotted shooting scenes at Disneyland. The film co-stars Emma Thompson, Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti, Bradley Whitford and Jason Schwartzman. It's directed by John Lee Hancock and set to hit theaters on December 20th, 2013. Check out some set photos below.

Plot: The film centers on the creator of Mary Poppins, PL Travers (Thompson). The story shifts back and forth between 1961 and 1907, showing Travers during her childhood and her experience negotiating with Walt Disney (Hanks) for the film of Mary Poppins.

Travers father (Farrell) was a banker who slowly slid into alcoholism as the family fell into financial hardship. Travers looked up to her father, and the breaking of his spirit had an effect on her writing. She was extremely reluctant to sell Disney the rights to make Mary Poppins into a movie, mainly because the story was highly personal, and reflected hardships in her own life and her relationship with her father.

Although the movie made her a very wealthy woman, she disliked the animated sequences and other aspects of the film so much that she refused to sell any of her other works to Disney for the rest of her life.

Hanks spent months with Walt's cryogenically frozen head to nail down his performance

If only Walt knew Jews made a film about his life, he'd come out of cold storage and kick some Hebrew ass.

Sounds like another flop for Tom. His agent should really be interested in 'saving Mr. Hanks' career from now on.

Of all the movies they could have made about Walt Disney, they had to make one about Mary Poppins?

Ever since Zemeckis left, Hanks projects have gone downhill...Hanks should have "Bob Z" on speed dial these days. I still think FLIGHT was a good start...I would really liked for Zemeckis to have helmed the new TWILIGHT ZONE movie.

Also, I think Hanks is kinda miscast as Disney. I know the suits were going for the feel good, dependable, star power actor but I think they could've done better.

Its funny cuz' Tom Hanks has a pudgy bloated face with a pedo mustache. Well, they said Walt was a pedo anyway, so I guess Hanks looks half the part at least.
