Budweiser Wants to be Removed from "Flight"

Budweiser Wants to be Removed from "Flight"Submit Comment
Denzel Washington portrays a highly functioning alcoholic pilot in Robert Zemeckis' "Flight." He's constantly seen drinking beer and vodka, sometimes while even driving. Throughout the film lots of alcohol companies are well represented, including Stolichnaya vodka and Budweiser beer.

Now comes word from both companies that Paramount Pictures never reached out to them to ask for permission to use their brands in the film. And even if they were asked, they would have never allowed for their product to be featured in such an irresponsible way. As a result, they are asking the studio to obscure or remove the logos from the film.

"We would never condone the misuse of our products, and have a long history of promoting responsible drinking and preventing drunk driving," said Budweiser. "We have asked the studio to obscure the Budweiser trademark in current digital copies of the movie and on all subsequent adaptations of the film, including DVD, On Demand, streaming and additional prints not yet distributed to theaters."

Other vodka brands like Absolut and Smirnoff also appear in the film, but legal experts say that Paramount won't have to deal with trademark laws, since courts have previously ruled that products may be featured in films regardless of whether the companies approve, as long as they have some artistic relevance.

Shut the f*ck up, Budweiser. You're the company that used cute cartoon talking frogs to sell alcohol, and now you're bitching because your product appears in a film. Maybe worry more that your beer appears quite frequently at the sites of domestic abuse instead.

The thing that shocks me the most about this story is that Robert Zemeckis directed something besides a goddamn cartoon.

What a joke. People drink and drive. They abuse alcohol all day long. We all already know this. These booze hypocrites need to STFU.

Honestly, I wouldn't have even noticed the Busweiser logo. Yet now if I do see that movie, I'll immediately remember what kind of beer it was before it was censored.

Irony. You're doing it right.

The only people that pay attention to that crap are alcoholics.

Whoa, whoa, whoa Bando...!

No love for Corona?! Unheard of!! One of the best imported beer around.

Bro, to really enjoy a Mexican Corona...Trick is to savor it with wetting the end with lime juice, sprinkling salt to make it stick, & shove the squeezed lime mid neck so every time you take a swig, you got that lime kick...same with Dos XX and Tecate (in can).

Hope it meets your expectations...cheers, bud.

Besides wouldn't this cost millions to do? you'd have to take back all the film and edit it. Suck it up Bud!

We don't want our products to be viewed that way.

Well, lets just keep viewing the ads in TV, magazines, and movies where you portray a happy drunk society. Everyone smiles....before they get a DUI...

None of them have a right to stop someone from using their brand. They seem to think because for the last few decades they have paid to have their product placed in movies, that they have the right to stop people from using it, they don't.

Only real time you see a production company removing a brand, is when they are already have a contract with a rival, best example is cars.
