"Mass Effect" Video Game Film is Moving Forward

"Mass Effect" Video Game Film is Moving ForwardSubmit Comment
Legendary Entertainment is moving forward with a film based on the "Mass Effect" video game franchise by hiring Morgan Davis Foehl to write the script. Mark Protosevich (Thor, I Am Legend) provided the first version of the script when Legendary acquired the rights to the property back in 2008.

Foehl was an assistant editor on Adam Sander comedies "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" and "Click." But then he wrote a script for "Whatever Gets You Through the Night," which landed on 2009's Black List, which is a list of the best unproduced screenplays.

The first "Mass Effect" game takes place in 2183 and revolves around a human space commander who leads a team on a mission to defeat an ancient race of mechanized aliens that invade the galaxy every 50,000 years, wiping out all forms of organic life.

Mass effect is a great game abou the choices you can make as a leader. How the hell can you turn that into a movie. I say leave it alone.

Sander? Who the f*ck is Adam Sander?

"that invade the galaxy every 50,000 years, wiping out all forms of organic life."

That's just stupid. Like life can evolve from nothing in fifty thousand years. They'd only have to do it once, and then come back in another billion or so.

Aw crap! This is gonna be another of those game-is-better-than-the-movie franchises.

@Angry, what choices, did you see how Mass Effect 3 ended?

Me personally I liked all 3 endings

And on the 7th day MiB said it shall suck ! So this race of mech beings just look at their watch and go " Well time to go kill all life on Earth " what a tosser concept .

@minkowski
They destroy only the evolved species (with space travel capacity), leaving behind the less evolved, to continue the cycle.

^^That's fine, but even then it would take far, far longer than fifty thousand years to produce another sentient, tool-working intelligent lifeform.

Hell, it took 4.5 billion years just to produce man, and that's not even a good case study.

@ mink the races they leave behind are basically as evolved as we are on earth. Everyone beyond that dies. It's actually quite an interesting universe. Should take a look

I'm merely confused to be honest. If the aliens invade the galaxy to exterminate space-faring *civilizations*, that's one thing, sure, but if they eliminated all space-capable species, which would include mankind 50,000 years ago, they'd have to come through maybe once every billion years.

And then the synopsis above says "all organic life", which is a more effective but costly strategy.

I'm just trying to make sense of the plot is all.

Very good game series

The synopsis is misleading

@Mink
They do a much better job explaining the 50000 years thing in the game. Hopefully the movie can do the same (which I doubt).

The "Reapers", as they're called in the game, leave behind their own technology throughout the galaxy to sort of "nudge" the remaining races along. That's why they can come so far in 50,000 years.

It's way more complex of a plot than that, with enough extra lore, side stories and codexes to rival the Star Wars universe. It is going to be insanely hard to make these movies good.
