James Wan's "The Conjuring" Horror Film is Breaking Test-Screening Records

During New York Comic-Con, Warner Bros showed the clip from "The Conjuring," a new horror film from director James Wan (Saw, Insidious). The response to the clip was overwhelmingly positive, but many wondered if the rest of the film would be this good.

Now comes word that Warner Bros has been holding test screenings of the movie and the results have also been positive. So positive, that Variety has called them "unheard-of." Some of the viewers mentioned that the film is not only well-made, but is also incredibly terrifying.

During the screenings, slightly over 90% of viewers rated the film "excellent" or "very good." The number was just below 100% from men under the age of 25. These kind of numbers are very rare, especially for a horror film. This is why Warners decided to move the film from its January release to July 19th, one of the best times for movies.

Based on a true story, "The Conjuring" revolves around ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren and their investigation of a young family that moves into a New England farmhouse where they're haunted by spirits.

Well, if anyone can breathe new life into that old unsuspecting "dopes move into snakenest of dead people in haunted house" trope, it's Wan, who has been getting better with each film he makes, although I'm not sure I believe anything Warner Brothers says, after they foolishly thought people were still high enough on TDK to think TDKR was "just as good".

I have zero faith in any "horror" film this day and age. Loud bangs and ear-splitting music cues that are supposed to scare you. PG-13 bullsh*t.

Not surprised about these news, "Insidious" was great and I still get chills remembering certain scenes.

Were the screenings in Santa Monica like the homos that changed G.I.JOE2?

Been waiting for this movie

Meh, not really been enjoying his horror films. Insidious was alright until you physically see a man wandering around in the bedroom with Rose Byrne's character, then it stops being scary and generic crap. Was the same with Sinister, was good up until they throw the ghost kids in your face (literally). It's like they run outta ways to scare you then just went for crappy ideas to "scare" people. So poor :(

I'll give it a go lol but it'd be nice to see the test footage..

and i agree, they kinda screwed sinister with the ending..

You know why this has those ratings? Because James Wan's a badass. Nobody has given this guy much of a chance. Hopefully this movie will give him the respect he deserves.
