"Drive" Sequel Won't Happen, a Spin-Off is Possible

Posted: October 9th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Drive" Sequel WonSubmit Comment
Back in June, author James Sallis was promoting his new book "Driven," which is a sequel to "Drive" that was adapted for the big screen with Ryan Gosling playing the lead role. Sallis confirmed that "Driven" will also be turned into a movie.

But now comes word from director Nicolas Winding Refn that a sequel won't happen. "That is never going to happen. But the character of Driver might return in another film," he said. "We're playing with that idea. We'll see what happens."

It's not clear which film Refn is talking about, but it sounds like there will be a completely unrelated movie that will check in on how Driver is doing years after the events in "Drive."

In "Driven," Driver has left the old life and founded a successful business. But one day he's attacked and his fiancee is killed. Sinking back into anonymity, he finds that his past stalks him and will not stop. He has to turn and face it. "He tries to become a normal person and re-invent himself," Sallis previously stated. "After his fiancee is killed, the violence is unleashed again."

Drive was great, but those ideas for a follow-up are making a "taint-sucking" sound.

This movie was good but not worth watching over and over.and is extremely overrated.

Loved Drive. I wouldn't mind a sequel, but it would have to based on the book, it makes no sense to go in a different direction when there is already the original source available.

That is like remaking Bloodsport with nothing to do with Bloodsport!

Drive....one of the most overrated movies ever. Just didn't buy Droopey Gosling as a tough guy. Plus a movie about a stunt/getaway driver should have more than one car chase in it (don't ya think). That movie was LAAAAAME!!!! IMO :-)

The best thing about drive was the soundtrack IMO. Plus the supporting cast was what really saved .... a sequel or spinoff is typical hollywierd miking the cow that should be put down

drive is my favorite movie of all time but i don't give two sh*ts that there wont be a sequel,im actually kind of hapy because a sequel would have ruined the original unless of course it was like the godfather part 2

The title refers to more than just driving a car, dude. Think a little less literal.

Anyway. So they're going to 'Bourne Legacy' Drive now, huh?

Yeah, no thanks. The one film is fine by me. Do something else, Refn.
