"Taken 2" Breaks Box Office Record with $50 Million Debut

"Taken 2" Breaks Box Office Record with $50 Million DebutSubmit Comment
"Taken 2" took first place at the domestic box office this weekend by grossing a record-breaking $50 million, which is more that double the opening numbers of the original 2009 film. The sequel took the best-ever October opening for a PG-13 film and the third-best overall after "Paranormal Activity 3" ($52.6 million) and "Jackass 3D" ($50.4 million).

Overseas, "Taken 2" took in an additional $55 million, for an impressive worldwide debut of $105 million. It cost only $45 million to make, but has a lousy 19% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

Tim Burton's animated "Frankenweenie," which is based on the director's 1984 short film, took fifth place with a disappointing $11.5 million. The good news is that it cost only $39 million to make, which means that it can still become profitable. On RottenTomatoes, the new movie has a 85% fresh rating.

Sounds to me like TAKEN 3 will be in the works.

Anyway, who says it has to be Mills and the family rescue formula? Just make him badass and let him do what he does best: kick ass!! The sky is the limit with a variation of that...there's your part 3.

Just please, oh please don't make the ex-wife become taught on being badass and try and rescue Mills & the daughter...box office poison I tell ya!

It's simple like that, there's no sugar love anymore for Burton after the ill fated Dark Shadows debacle!

i just watched taken, part one, thought it had great simple action...but terrible acting. i assume this will be the same.

it was alright^

not the same as the first, but still not a bad action film. even though it's on the pace to beat the first Taken in box office, i think there's no way it'll hold out to do so lol

Just saw Looper tonight in theaters. Excellent flick imo. But can you believe two *ssholes walked in during the second half, sat behind me talking loudly eating bags of chips or some sh*t? Then one *sshole in the last few minutes says to the other *sshole "That's 20 minutes I'll never get back". I was so goddamn tempted to go full Liam Neeson on the sons of bitches for ruining the $10 I spent and my viewing experience.

Having some farts saved up comes in handy in times like that^

It didn't have the awesomeness of the first at all. I thought the action was terribly shot, not that it was great action anyway.

so now Taken 3 is guaranteed...hopefully with a different director
minkowski writes:

That's pretty much unexpected. I guess another one is guaranteed, but without Neeson, forget about it.
