"Total Recall" Director in Talks for "The Mummy" Reboot

"Total Recall" Director in Talks for "The Mummy" RebootSubmit Comment
Back in April, it was reported that Universal Pictures was rebooting "The Mummy" franchise with Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, The Darkest Hour) on board to write the script. And now comes word that Len Wiseman (Total Recall) is in talks to direct.

Story details are being kept a secret, but Spaihts hinted: "I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with 'Prometheus': to go back to a franchise's roots in dark, scary source material and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven't seen before."

Brendan Fraser's 1999 movie "The Mummy" grossed $415 million worldwide and was outperformed by its 2001 sequel "The Mummy Returns," which took in $433 million globally. The 2002 "Scorpion King" spin-off only grossed $165 million. But when Fraser return for "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," the 2008 film grossed $401 million, indicating that there was still plenty of interest left in the franchise.

Hey Len Wiseman, if you don't want to be called a hack don't remake other people's properties. You made an entrance with underworld, then you sold out. The only thing you did right was marry Kate Beckinsale. And for that I hate you.

Another useless reboot! Expect those Jews from Hollywood to be whining AGAIN for this guaranteed flop of 2013. What the f*ck is it with this persistent trend with rebooting film which are only bound to fail? It's really pathetic.

Say what you want but the European films, mainly English and French, have much more originality than all those US films combined.

It's offical, Hollywood has run out of ideas.

Just another remake that will bomb.

When was there a movie with originality in it.

Arnold Vosloo is staring at his phone after hearing this news.

Unsure why this needs rebooting. But if you have to then make it a full on horror,no comedy aspects just full on spine tingling horror.
Stapes writes:

I've got an original idea, nawtnt, how about a movie about a guy who gets tired of reading your pointless posts and comes to your house to punch you in the ear. I'll play "the guy," and I'll even do it for a percentage of the profits rather than salary.
Stapes writes:

BECAUSE OF JOHN WOO.Van Damme was his second choice though. The lead was supposed to be Kurt Russell but never happened.there is also an international version with more footage.

Vosloo was underused
He got stuck in the dvd zone after DM2/3
He shouldv parlayed being in Barrymores last movie with Ginger Lynn more (my spell check is out and i'm high)

Hard Target had good cast, you cant go wrong with Lance Hennricksen but best VD movies??
It is action packed with cheezy goodness

Actually Hollywood. PLEASE keep making these reboots. Seriously. You'll lose BILLIONS of $, then... THEN you may come back to the drawing board, you lazy, un-original dipsh*ts!
BoobsMcGee writes:

There are so many unheard screenwriters with truly original stories that need to be heard. But, no. Why pay someone from originality when mediocre worked so well in the past.

Hollywood can suck my cl*t. Douchebags...

Shove your d*ck in his sloppy ass. That'll quiet the little bitch down.

"Ugh. The guy failed already with Total Recall... and they're giving him the keys again for another ride?! WTF?!"

Total Recall failed, yes, but that doesn't mean the studio thinks Wisemen didn't do a proper job. They probably blame Farrell or marketing.
Rambo writes:

yes,of course, because of john woo...half of the movie is in slow motion with great camera work

Way way to early for reboot to this. Its not like the actors have gotten too old or anything. If they reboot it will end up like scorpion king. Everyone will know its not a real mummy sequel and pass on it. Believe it or not, and trust me im surprised to say this as well, but fraser IS the charasmatic draw for this. He IS the mummy franchise. Take him out of it and you got scorpion king. The only way you can reboot this successfully is after enough time has passed that most of the movie going public has forgotten about these films. I think that may be a long time however. The first mummy is a classic. It has already been playing on AMC and other channels for years. I say these producers are better off trying to finally launch the uncharted video game movie. Its new ground with a familiar feel. Cast nathan fillion as drake and move forward
