First Review of Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln"

Posted: September 23rd, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
First Review of Steven SpielbergSubmit Comment
Steven Spielberg hates to have his films screen-tested, mostly because he feels that a few individuals cannot determine whether a film is good or bad. But for some reason, his latest movie, "Lincoln," was just test-screened for a NJ audience and the first review is now out. Keep in mind that this person is not a professional critic, just an average movie-goer.

"The performances of Daniel Day-Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones, and Hal Holbrook were great," said the person. "Sally Field was miscast as Mrs. Lincoln, Joseph Gordon Levitt as Lincoln's eldest son was OK but he really didn't add anything to the story."

He continued: "My biggest issue with the film as a whole was, it was boring. With the film centering on the vote for the 13th amendment, ending slavery and the Civil War, you'd think Spielberg would have made a more exciting, riveting film. So much of the story takes place in small, smoky dark rooms with Lincoln talking to one or two people, that my mind began to wander. It felt claustrophobic. If he had shown the horrors of slavery and the Civil War, it might have evened out the story. They pretty much kept the film centered around the politicians."

Boring? Uh-oh that doesn't sound good. Still, I will give this movie a try because of DDL.

Not to privy on the details of the book its based on but its my understanding the story is very self contained and focused on a handful of individuals rather than the grander scope of things going on in that era. So makes sense that this guy said they just sit around in the Whitehouse's lounge room talking sh*t and smoking blunts. Actually that would make it a much better film. A stoner film for intellectuals one might say.

How does one make a movie about a vote exciting?

Seriously. They people offer opinions but NO solutions. WHAT does he suggest Spielberg had done to make a vote exciting?

OH... I know... tag this at the end of the movie:

The Americans use Mexicans now (NO offense to our Mexi population on here... you know, I know who you are).

Funny... Leno will do Mexican jokes repeatedly, but never a black joke... notice? Seriously... watch him sometime.

And I'd rape his cat for his car collection.

A historical cinematic piece is boring? They should have thrown in some talking robots, a few cars chases, a drunk albino midget and the cast of The Hangover then.

And if this guy isn't a paid critic, just some anonymous *sshole, who the f*ck cares and why write an article on it?

Wait for the real reviews people.

"Keep in mind that this person is not a professional critic, just an average movie-goer."

If professional critics helped The Artist win Best Picture, then I'd rather hear the opinions of an average movie-goer.

Don't know the last time I've ever let a review of a movie keep me from seeing what I wanted to see. Live and learn people. Make your own damn decisions.
