Rupert Wyatt Won't Direct "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" Sequel

Rupert Wyatt WonSubmit Comment
20th Century Fox previously confirmed that it is moving forward with a sequel to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," which is called "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." The plan was to bring back director Rupert Wyatt and release the film on May 23rd, 2014.

Deadline is now reporting that Wyatt has dropped out of the project, explaining that he doesn't feel comfortable with rushing the production process in order to make the release date. This is exactly why Gary Ross stepped down from returning for "The Hunger Games" sequel.

Fox declined to comment, but we already that the studio likes the script for the sequel, which will show the apes taking over the world. While losing Wyatt is a setback, Fox should have no problem finding a good replacement. The big question, however, is whether Wyatt's concerns will end up hurting the film.

It's Fox, so I'm not surprised at all. I guess the movie will be called the rise of the Dawn of the planet of the apes.

Keep it.

Premise was always pretty f*cking dumb anyway, so they invent this silly drug/compund/chemical that makes every primate except humans smarter, which undermines the fact that humans are so closely related to the other primates, it would be next to impossible to engineer such a drug.

What a contrivance. Then again, the first films were somewhat inspired by nuclear war and the mutation of chimps from the lingering radiation, so, whatever.

Riiiiiight. That's why the first 'Hunger Games; is such a masterfully crafted piece of celluloid gold because Ross took his time to create a timeless cinematic cornerstone for all to remember for generations. Right????
