No Time-Travel in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" SequelSubmit Comment
"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" was one of the big successes of 2011, which is why a sequel is currently in the works. According to Rick Jaffa, writer/producer on the first film, says that the sequel, called "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," will also not delve into time travel.

"I don't foresee that," he explained. "It's the one big element that we made a conscious decision not to explore in the first one, and we were worried that there might be some backlash in the science fiction community because of it."

Jaffa added: "When the story first came together we were very, very excited, and yet before we pitched it, I thought, 'The one thing missing though is time travel. But it's not necessary for this particular telling.' And I don't really foresee it, to tell you the truth."

Rupert Wyatt will return to direct "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," which is set to hit theaters on May 23rd, 2014.

Anyone paying attention during the first film needs no explanation. Time travel would have forced us to abandon the main character (Cesar) which would have been a big mistake. The next film has to be pretty f*cking grim for the human race though, so i'm pretty excited to see how they handle the entire human race being nearly wiped out.

Like Romero films, are they going all the way to title the movies using the words Night, Dawn, Day, Land, Diary and even Island before the sentence Planet of the Apes?!

Time travel isnt needed for this story.

Um, there was Time Travel implied in the first story. Albeit it was just a reference to Taylor and the lost crew.

If you put infinite monkeys on infinite type writers they'll type shakespeare...

If you put a sh*t load of genius monkeys on a technologically advanced planet with infinite resources they'll invent time travel.

Cause... you know... science.

Id don't see why Time Travel has to be mentioned yet, even if you include the original film in to the story line. When the astronauts landed on earth in the original the year was 3978, anything could have happened up to that point. They could have gone through a black hole or something. Leave the time travel alone just focus on how apes take over.

Cheers.

@sacdaddy
If things are looking grim for us and we have cardboard characters like Franco, then I hope the ape race f*cking wipes us out. Jeez, the human characters in the flick were either extremely d*ckish (that Harry Potter douchesnozzle) or paper thin & brain dead (like Franco. Or his annoying, smug, save the animals gf). Too bad the only like able character dies (Lightow).

Maybe this time they'll credit Dean Koontz for his Fear Nothing ovel, from which they arguably stole a number of generalized ideas.

And by time travel, they mean they won't jump ahead two thousand years. They'll pick up years later, somehow, although I doubt the sequel's story will be nearly as interesting as the first film's.
