First Look: Chris Pine as Jack RyanSubmit Comment
Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first photo from the upcoming Jack Ryan film, which shows Chris Pine (Star Trek) as the title character riding on a motorcycle through the streets of Manhattan. Check it out below.

The story centers on ex-Marine and Moscow-based financial analyst Jack Ryan (Pine), who uncovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the US economy. Ryan must race against time to save America and his wife (Knightley).

The new movie is a prequel to Tom Clancy's series of books, which were turned into movies starring Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. Kenneth Branagh (Thor) is directing and is set to hit theaters on Christmas (December 25th), 2013.

P.s.

Dear Hollywood,

Film Moscow in Moscow. It's a huge city with tons of p*ssy your young stars will appreciate. Romania or Hungary or Prague doesn't look like. At all. And Brad Bird tried. Fugk you.

I wish Alec Baldwin was given the opportunity to return as Jack Ryan in Patriot Games. He was great in The Hunt for Red October. Paramount wanted a bigger star, so they went with Harrison Ford, who I thought was too old and boring for the role. It could have sent Baldwin's career into a higher orbit, instead of the also-ran in several low profile flops. Sure, he has reached new heights nowadays as a comedic actor with "30 Rock", but his career could've been much different had he returned as Jack Ryan.

@cress

Actually it was Baldwin who wanted to star in 'Streetcar named desire', so Paramount went with Ford.

Just a little piece of trivia.

@Kurskij. I read an interview with Baldwin a few mmonths back where's he blamed Parent Mount.

@Kurskij. Just Google "why Alec Baldwin didn't return for Patriot Games". There's a piece where he blogged about it last year. I'd post the link, but linking may not be best at the moment.

Then it's a little piece of trivia from you. What I've read is that Baldwin was so sure if himself after the success of 'Red October' that he took a run run of 'Streetcar' on Broadway instead of a sequel, thinking he'll get blockbuster roles regardless (see The Shadow). Domestically, if im no mistaken, October is still the best performing of Jack Ryan movies, so Paramount should've been happy.

Ps

I'll google it, but still considering the enormous performance of 'red October' (domestically at least) there was no reason for Para to change horses.

And to be honest I wouldn't mind Chris Pine as Nathan Drake, he totally looks like a d*ck just like Drake.

If they turn Ryan into a full-blown action hero ...fail. Baldwin and Ford were physical in the role, yes, but also (each in their own way) epitomized the thinking man essence of the character.

Affleck, however, came off bland because he lacked the boyish adventure spirit that Baldwin brought to the table and the dutiful, morally driven emotion that came natural with Fordís performance. Affleck by himself is just not very interesting; unfortunately, that was the angle in casting him.

Iím afraid they might be making the same mistake with Pine. Sure, he can be charismatic, but equally generic. Jack Ryan was never the smirky hotrod type. Pine needs to shed the "uber cool" and instead play the character with a bookish, academic personality and genuine moral conviction. He canít just coast by on being Captain Kirk-lite. Wonít work here.
