David Fincher on "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" Sequel

David Fincher on "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" SequelSubmit Comment
David Fincher's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" remake wasn't a huge success, but Sony Pictures is committed to the franchise and would like to see the next two installments eventually appear on the big screen.

Both Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara are contractually locked in to return, but David Fincher's isn't. He is, however, the studio's first choice to direct the sequel, called "the Girl Who Played With Fire." Sony even took Fincher off "Cleopatra" in order to have him available.

The Art of Title website caught up with Fincher to get an update. "Well, [I'm] trying to figure out a sequel to 'Dragon Tattoo,'" he said. "We've got to be able to make it our own thing."

"Dragon Tattoo" writer Steven Zailian is currently working on the script and even though the plan was to have the film in theaters next year, Sony says that it won't be ready until 2014. And regarding the "make it our thing" comment, Fincher is talking about complaints that "Dragon Tattoo" was an exact copy of the book and failed to create any surprises for those who've read it.

I really enjoyed Maras' backside in "Dragon Tattoo. "

just make the second and third book into one film instead of 2 films. or not make them. I thought the first one had an interesting story, but the second and third book didn't really. it was just more of whatsherface and she isn't interesting enough on her own to make it really work.

Again Alex, not doing your research. The entire Harriet reveal was changed from the book, throwing a huge curveball for fans of the book.

And why would being close to the book be a bad thing? Who the f*ck has ever complained about a close adaptation? Come the f*ck on.

Seriously, you can't deviate from the books too far. A minor detail here or there might not be terrible, but don't change the story. Great example: The Shining. I don't care how awesome Steven Kubrick was, he can suck "his vision" of the story

You know you have done the book justice when people who have read it said it was exactly like the book. Now only if Hollywood can make comic book movies the same way!

@cress

Nothingness you mean?

I'd still hit it (DUH).

On the other hand, I'd probably f*ck a hole in the ground if told there's a badger in it (was there first, ranger!)
