Vera Farmiga is the Mother in "Psycho" Prequel TV SeriesSubmit Comment
Last month we reported that a prequel TV series based on Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" film was in the works. Called "Bates Motel," the show has already been greenlit and ten episodes have already been ordered for 2013.

Now comes word that Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) has signed on to play Norma Louise Bates, described as a complicated, passionate and compelling woman who is smart, multidimensional and always capable of surprising people.

"Bates Motel" is a present-day telling of the formative years of Norman Bates, [his] relationship with his mother, Norma, and the world they inhabit. Viewers will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first-hand how Norma helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all.

I really enjoyed Farmigas' backside in "Up in the Air".

So this story will be told by the Mom's perspective? SPOILER- the mom is Norman too!

^ So there won't be any incest scene, then? What a waste.

Really? Meh...

I think it would've been better to not know their origins...as HANNIBAL RISING and TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE reboot showed us, Hollywood doesn't have the creativity to match the creepiness/ horror to the origins.

Anyway, this TV show is a tall order since it may have to fight the censors to really do justice to it. It'll need a lot of good, creepy ideas to explain why Norman Bates was as f*cked up as he was....or why his Mom was like that in the first place.

It really depends where they're taking this project. Maybe they'd pull it off if it's on HBO, maybe AMC?

Sounds like a cheap cash-in on the success of 'Dexter'.
