Disney is Remaking "The Rocketeer"Posted: August 22nd, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
NY Mag has learned that Walt Disney Pictures is planning to remake its 1991 film "The Rocketeer" and is currently meeting with writers to find a take that they like. The original was directed by Joe Johnston (Captain America). At this point, a director or actors have yet to be attached.
In the original film, young pilot Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell) stumbles on a top secret rocket-pack and with the help of his mechanic/mentor, Peevy (Alan Arkin), he attempts to save his girl (Jennifer Connelly and stop the Nazis as The Rocketeer.
It cost $35 million to make and grossed $46.7 million domestically. Hardly a success. And with Disney owning the "Iron Man" property, it's odd that the studio would also want to pursue "the Rocketeer."

It was bloody awful. Except for Jennifer Connelly's massive norks and the gratuitous cleavage shots.

Kat Dennings should be taking Connelly's character. Perfect cleavage.

@Trailer: Tony Nicklinson died. He finally had what he desperately begged for despite that stupid judge's decision. May he RIP now.

His daughter has said he died of natural causes, But i'm sure there's a little more to it, Who cares hey
He's at peace now and thats were he wanted to be.
No judge had the right to deny him that

I loved the rocketeer, I wouldnt mind seeing the character rebooted or revisited properly.
Maybe this time Disney will promote the thing better.
Had no idea it made so little money at the box office. Guess that explains why we didnt get a sequel.

@Bullit - funny I was thinking the same thing about Kat's cleavage. Her best marketable assets.

I can’t imagine why, since the original was about as perfect a Rocketeer movie as one could make. f*cking Disney. They totally kicked that movie to the curb for some 20 years and now they’re gonna turn around and remake it? *ssholes.

@Mr. Blonde: I saw her on the show with O'Brian and she's quite childish. I can't find it on youtube but she couldn't stop giggling for no reason like she just got out of high school or something. Not that it would matter if you can score with her but here's an idea how she sounds at 1' mark:

Way to follow up John Carter with a remake of a flop from 20 years ago.

@Bullit - thanks for the link. Yeah I agree. Rocketeer is for kids and they need a young actress to fill the role. Based on looks alone she seems a good fit. I'm sure the new Director will think along these lines for the best interest of the movie and his d*ck.

I like the way you use domestic numbers to make it sounds like something didn't do very well and world numbers when you want to make it sound like a success.
