Harvey Weinstein Wants to End Violence in Movies

Posted: July 27th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Harvey Weinstein Wants to End Violence in MoviesSubmit Comment
After the Colorado massacre, NY mayor Michael Bloomberg has been pressuring President Obama and Mitt Romney to take a tougher stance on gun laws. Now Harvey Weinstein has joined the fight, stating that it's time for Hollywood to address how violence in movies influences people.

"I think as filmmakers we should sit down -- the Marty Scorseses, the Quentin Tarantinos and hopefully all of us who deal in violence in movies -- and discuss our role in that," Weinstein said.

It's a well-known fact that there was zero violence before movies, but it's also a fact (a real fact) that Weinstein is responsible for some of the most bloodies films out there, including "Inglourious Basterds," "Pulp Fiction," "Piranha 3D," and the "Kill Bill" films. This is something the filmmaker has struggled with.

"I've been involved with violent movies, and then I've said at a certain point, 'I can't take it anymore. Please cut it,'" he explained. "You know, you've got to respect the filmmaker, and it's a really tough issue."

Weinstein is currently hard at work on "Django Unchained," "Sin City 2," and "Halloween 3."

some violence in movies is weak in relation to some of the sh*t i see on the world news

from countires that wouldnt even get the chance to see a movie to be influenced by them in the first place

movies dont kill people...sick f*cks kill people....they may have some influence...but if a movie influences you to kill people then there was something wrong with you to begin with...

I dont understand this accusation that movies (and also video games) somehow brainwash people into committing violence. Do these people not have mental issues or problems in their personal lives that force them to commit these acts? Are we seriously suggesting that a law abiding married christian man with a beautiful wife and family who was loved by his parents has the potential to be hynotised and go on a killing spree after seeing the dark knight rises?

you know, there are experts on this subject(like on every subject). but nobody listens to them, because they are saying news media is to blame. so guess who isn't reporting about that?

all the people, who are accused of shooting people, because of the matrix and yadda yadda are in fact killing people, because the news are showing the sad faces of the victim's families and they make the shooters into something bigger than life.
for crazy people it's something they want to achieve. they get satisfaction from the pain of the victims and their families. they want to be famous and on TV, with their crazy messages brought into every home via the news.

also the social environment is to blame, but as soon as something terrible happens, nobody wants to blame or be blamed, so they take some kind of entertainment(movies, games, books, music) and blame it on that.

I guess the violence in movies is not the problem.. maybe instead of having age ratings for movies, one should do an exam to check the grade of maturity or lunacy.. example:

When i see someone killing other in a movie I:

a) Feel the urge to kill the next person close to me.
b) Feel sorry for the guy who got shot and that feeling bothers me after some time.
c) I put myself in the place of the guy that was shot, and try to imagine the agony.
d) I know it's all f*cking fake, and i'm feeling strange homicidle urges just for answering this crap.
e) I imagine that the guy being shot is my boss
f) I feel homosexual urges.

Something of the sort.

Movies do influence violence, there's no doubt about it, but movies do not create violence. Every time this discussion comes up it seems like no one talks about the real problem: (1) Single parent homes and (2) Bad parents. Sociological studies have shown time and again that having two parents, ACTIVELY INVOLVED in their children's lives is the best defense for drug use, underage drinking (and drunk driving accidents or alcohol related deaths), or gang affiliation. Most of our social woes come from single Moms who attempt to do the job of two people but unfortunately just can't because it's humanly impossible or from really bad parents. My girlfriend's neighbors are these two lazy ass white trash Texans who (honest to Allah) spend more time in bars than with their only child. They keep trying to pawn their kid onto her so that they can drink over at a friend's or something.

Mere political posturing I say. Harv might as well tell Scorsese and Tarantino (and himself) to pack it in because their meal ticket has expired. What is required is tighter security in movie theatres (dare I say it - metal detectors). The events of 911 changed the way we fly. Greater security awareness, physical searches and improved equipment technology to conduct scans on passengers and baggage. These are now expected procedures to be complyed with by the travelling public. The Colorado massacre will unfortunately change the way we see our movies. If any of these changes affect the bottom dollar of a movie ticket (likely), then its going to drive some people away as the price of admissions is already quite high. Wait for the DVD.

Last night my town was barricaded off by police after a man trying to kill his ex shot 2 cops (both are fine now) and killed a k9 police dog. i live in a small town (so small we only have 1 or 2 squad cars out in about at a time) and it took over 100 cops including swat teams and spotlight helicopters 7hrs to find the guy who was surrounded within a 5 mile radius the entire time and because of that a well known citizen from here was caught in the crossfire and killed during the final gun fight (which ended in the gun man comitting suicide before police moved in). had it not taken them a completely unecessary 7hrs to stop the guy the citizen would still be alive.

so is tv and movies to blame for that too? because i feel like the citizens death might as well be half blamed on the cops. 1 swat team should be able to take out 1 man stuck in that small of space who was 57yrs old and 200lbs in less then an hour. but it took more then 100 7hrs to get the job done. even if it took 6hrs the bystander would still be alive.

im not saying cops are to blame for every incident but what im saying is you look at each individual situation closely youll find more plausible people (not objects) to blame for the incident. but incases like this they arent about to blame a citizens murder on police officers taking their sweettime to just finish a job. obviously the gunman is to blame as well. but the whole thing started over this f*ck getting dumped. he didnt play grand theft auto or watch the last 20mins of the town and say well sh*t that looks fun.

so basically what im saying is f*ckheads need to just man up and take responsibility for their actions. and other people need to realize people who do sh*t like this are f*cked up in the head and not right all around. not some nerd watching movies or playing games that also happens to own an automatic rifle. or all the sh*t the colorado f*ck had on him.

on a lighter note the f*ckhead last night probably plays a mean game of grand theft auto. probably never lost a game of hide and seek as a kid either. and these local cops and their "drug crusades" thought high school and college kids smoking weed was the worst thing in this town.

@fbo my thoughts exactly.

cops, specially small town cops, love getting an excuse to drive fast or shoot their gun. theyre people like anyone else. nothing makes them better. the majority dont really care about anything beyond their paycheck. so that way they can cash it and go home and eat dinner like everybody else.

bspence writes:

idk about ALL cops but american cops have given me more then enough reasons to not trust them.

but back on subject if people are going to try and blame movies for people doing violent things like this f*ck did last night then i doubt theyll like where the conversation goes when people start mentioning people more likely to blame and also mention cops not doing their jobs well enough to prevent these types of things from, maybe not happening in general but at least from getting out of hand like my town was last night.

i mean its one guy and they were evacuating people from town because they couldnt find him. he was in the park the entire time. and its not that big of a park either. i really dont understand why it took 7hrs. so gunmen arent the only ones to blame for situstions like this. then you can fairly blame theater employees for colorado as well. not movies.
FBO writes:

But we're getting off topic, the point is if anyone wants a healthy society then what they need to do is focus on maintaining healthy families. Do that and you'll have a society of well adjusted, mentally stable people. And healthy families would also reduce strain in; paying for education, medical bills, homelessness, and welfare. bspence: I cant't help it, whenever some guy takes GTA as a reference for violence I have to say something, that's what I did, you? You're trying to expose what's wrong with the world in a movie site full of d*ck jokes and daddy issues. I'm a dumbass, got it.
P.d. In GTA there are lots of missions that don't need guns at all, in Gears you run around with a chainsaw-machine gun for 9 hours straight. So...

"have you ever meet a cop that could admit they were wrong?"

Don't get me started on cops. They have virtually no imagination and no ability to think. They do what they want, they lie, the treat people like trash, they chase tickets and sit on their fat asses harassing people while actual crime goes on behind them. They're mostly power-mad bullies and cowards. I have nothing but contempt for them and their fascist attitudes, though I support 'law and order' within reason.

if youd bother to read what im said its that sh*ts NOT TO BLAME for whats wrong with people. your the one getting technical with the example. frankly i dont spend enough time on my ass playing games to care what i use as an example. especially considering the fact im not blaming the game for being violent. it is a violent game but its not to blame for people that do sh*t like colorado or my town last night. make sure you know what your reading before you try to talk sh*t.

Because you posted the news before he could do so, which means you did it within a week of it appearing elsewhere. Bad, bad dog!
minkowski writes:

One could argue that allowing boys and young men, who are naturally violent thanks to the wonders of testosterone, to play violent video games gives them a media in which to channel their natural aggression, or lest we find them on the streets beating each other to a pulp or joining the military.

In that respect, I consider video games more like therapy for a natural condition among the affected.

But hey, don't let my logic stop anyone from bickering like bitches.

a cop is nothing but a stranger to me. so how can someone ive never met who doesnt know me come into my life and control it to the point of telling me how much money i have to pay somebody, or tow my car, or arrest me sometimes over things no person should be held "captive" for. to me this idea of a cop sounds like a bully, hustler, thief, hostage taker, and power junky. cops are nothing more then the people they say they are here to put away. and thats someone who can sleep at night by doing things that can ruin a strangers life that they never care about or blink an eye over so long as it means they get a check they can go cash so they can go home and relax like everyone else. cops are people like everyone else and are supposebly around to help people yet they can ruin lives just as bad as rapists and killers only in different ways with no help from the absolute joke of the justice system. what makes these people who are cops, government suits, or political figures so much better then the average citizen while at some point their family was considered the exact same. when both them and citizens wake up, go to work, cash their check, and go home. the only difference is that citizens dont have the absurd unecesary power to start a war with another country. but thats how dumb the human race is as a whole. we cant see that we are one species on one planet in one galaxy out of thousands in the universe. so we made technology (that we probably took from a species from another world) why does that make us better? a cheeta couldnt dial a phone number but goodluck beating one in a fight to the death without the help of your precious man made devious so many people take for absolute granit. humans are only a spec in a much bigger "world" (meaning the universe) that OUR god created (at least as far as my personal beliefs are concerned). so why is it that humans cannot coexist? because we are a young and immature species that refuses to see this bigger picture. so instead we appoint uptight conservative people who hire these cops who tell us what to do. now when i know the average person cant see that bigger picture its now been explained to you. interpret it how you will. we have a longass way to come as a species and its time to grow up. not counting any kindve natural disaster all it would take is for a world that is able to coexist as a dominant species to attack us. some say we would come together as a species but unless everyone of these conservative souls who are dumb enough to make some of the rules the rest of us who werent meant to be anything more than other creatures in nature must follow then i dont believe we would stand a chance. not that we are facing an invasion that im aware of at the moment it is just the very basic example as to what it would take for humans to crumble. and its not much despite what some might believe or want to believe. look at what humans have created divided. just imagine the things the human race could do if we all came together in world peace. sadly and patheticaly its very safe to say that none of us will see that day in our lives as much as i would personaly like to. but thats sadly the very little amount of faith i have in our species anymore. we travel into space and wish to explore more worlds. but honestly tell me how we can risk our very being with threats of nuclear war and still expect to survive as a species in a much much larger universe that humans are in no way shape or form the center of?
