Live-Action "Street Fighter" Series in the Works

Live-Action "Street Fighter" Series in the WorksSubmit Comment
At the San Diego Comic-Con, Capcom announced that it will develop a live-action series based on its popular "Street Fighter" video game franchise, which is being called "Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist."

The new show will focus on the formative years of game's iconic characters, Ryu and Ken, as they live a traditional warrior's life in secluded Japan. The boys are, unknowingly, the last practitioners of the ancient fighting style known as "Ansatsuken" (Assassin's Fist). The story follows them as they learn about the mysterious past of their Master, Gouken, and the tragic and dark legacy of the Ansatsuken style.

The project will be directed by Joey Ansah, who's behind the animated film "Street Fighter: Legacy," which generated over eight million views. "This takes the story right back to the start the origins and motivations of Ryu, Ken, Gouken and Akuma," he said. "This will become the definitive back-story from which further epic adventures will follow."

The plan is to complete and release the series in 2013.

It's being directed by Joey Ansah?

That is awesome.

Joey Ansah plays Dash (the guy who fights Jason Bourne in The Bourne Ultimatum).

His fight scene was brillaint.

Hopefully this series turns out to be great.

Lol. I saw the Van Damme SF last night on tv and laughed all the way through it. Who the f*ck cast that film?!?! That movie was so bad it killed Raul Julia!

I'm surprised no one in Hwood has thought about enlisting some of the great talent behind some of these badass Thai action movies (like The Raid or The Protector) to help put together a more authentic Street Fighter movie. Most of SF's history is based in that region of the world anyway so location shooting and casting would be better. Getting the stunt choreographers from those films would be a huge bonus! The only problem would be casting white actors that could keep up with that style of action. All the Michael Dudikoffs and Jeff Speakmans have gone the way off the dinosaur, and the Darth Maul guy couldn't possibly play all the Caucasian roles, especially not Cammy :-)

It's a video game with no f*cking story, and yet you people want it to have a story?

Next up, Pablo Picasso's 'Guernica' to be made into a live-action movie, starring Shia Lebeouf, Channing Tatum and Lady Gaga.

"This will become the definitive back-story from which further epic adventures will follow."

You wish, *sshole.

"It's a video game with no f*cking story, and yet you people want it to have a story?"

Um, Street Fighter does have a story. I mean its no Tekken, or Mortal Kombat, but they have a story.

@mink, actually there is a story, but if you were never interested in the games, you probably wouldn't know.
minkowski writes:

Which is....? Because I played the Super Nintendo game like 25 years ago (Street Fighter 2. FIGHT!) and maybe I missed some cut scenes, or some cinematic storyboarding, but it wasn't exactly Tales of Phantasia.

But hey. They made a Super Mario movie, and there's no story there either.

Can't wait for the Tetris movie.

Oh, I like games, just not the ones you play with little boys and ice cream sandwiches.

@mink, I just wanted to have a civilized conversation here, and you had to go and bring up our sexual activities together.
minkowski writes:

Considering that the foundation of civilization is the concept of a man mating with a woman, I'm fairly certain you have no place in any thing civilized.

"you had to go and bring up our sexual activities together."

Our only shared sexual activity would be me dissecting you to see where evolution went horribly wrong, and you masturbating throughout.

For all intensive purposes, it seems like they're going the "Mortal Kombat" route. Make a cheap live-action web series, hope it generates enough interest and then make a film.

Seems like the new method for Hollywood for unproven material. It'll be interesting to see where this leads to.
