Comic-Con Flyers for Matt Damon's "Elysium" Sci-Fi Film

Posted: July 12th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Comic-Con Flyers for Matt DamonSubmit Comment
Matt Damon's upcoming sci-fi film "Elysium," from director Neill Blomkamp (District 9), has an automated "Border Station" representative at Comic-Con who greets attendees and hands out flyers that offer "low price" housing at Armadyne corporation's space station. Check out the flyers below.

Plot: In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

The new movie is set to hit theaters on March 1st, 2013.

Is it just me or does the picture on the bottom left of the very bottom flyer look ripped straight from Halo?

Erm, Halo wasn't the first science fiction story to feature a ringworld...

This story is from 'Cloud Minders' from the original Star Trek series.

And I WISH they wouldn't list actual years in movies. Because when the actual year comes around... and we're not living on the moon by then (as an example), it blows more than DoperDave's mother on rent day. Just say... '50 years from now' (for example).

As for equalizing these two worlds... now it's a Total Recall rip-off.

C'mon... SING IT!

It was not Halo, and it was not Larry Niven. It was Freeman Dyson, a physicist, who originated the idea of dismantling Jupiter to build what is called a Dyson Sphere, a shell of material around a star, thus capturing the star's entire energy output minus waste heat lost to radiative dissipation. People would live on the curved inner concave surface, or within it.

Others, including Konstantin Tsiolkovsky and Olaf Stapledon, preceded Dyson in part. But people keep saying Niven, and even Halo, came up with the general idea first, and that's just not true.

What I would like to see, rather than rip off video games with their worn, reduced fifth-hand ideas, is someone make a film using a Dyson Sphere, wherein people on a planet come to realization they are living on a world surrounded by one, and the stars they see are actually the lights on the inside of the sphere's inner surface. Naturally, these people would have to be rather 'primitive', but it didn't stop M. Knight from doing something similar with The Village.

Of course, though, Elysium looks very much like Halo, and it might be the film fans of that video game have been greatly desiring, but unless it's something a lot less ugly and dreary than District 9, I think I'll pass.

In other words, Blomkamp is just another boring leftist peddling his hate the rich class warfare bullsh*t under the thin clothing of something barely passing as science fiction.

Yeah, no thanks, *sshole. When you start taking in homeless people, letting them eat from your fridge and sleep on your couch, I'll consider your analogy on the US immigration problem. Until then, peddle your Howard Zinn sh*t somewhere else.

'Blomkamp is just another boring leftist peddling his hate the rich class warfare bullsh*t...' --- meanwhile Blomkamp gets wealthy himself, but tries to play the common man (like Michael Moore bashing Capitalism whilst reaping (raping) its rewards).
