Plot Synopsis for Will Smith's "After Earth," Directed by M. Night Shyamalan

Plot Synopsis for Will SmithSubmit Comment
M Night Shyamalan has been shooting "After Earth" sci-fi movie with Will Smith and his son Jaden. We've already seen a few photos from the film, and today we have the official plot synopsis, courtesy of San Diego Comic-Con's schedule, which states that "After Earth" will have a panel on July 14th.

Plot: One thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind's new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai's craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

The new movie is written by Shyamalan and is set to hit theaters on June 7th, 2013.

To Jaden Smith : I know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for box office success, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let your career go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

If you switch Jaden Smith for any other kid and M. Night Shyamalan for Neill Blomkamp you would have a winner.

Jaden needs to learn humility and unless he stars in a movie that bombs or his father teaches it to him I dont see it happening.

I loved Smith in "Seven Pounds" along with a few other roles where he had to show some range.

The director has had to learn some humility and here his his chance to either shine or sh*t can what could be a very good story (if the real father son duo don't mess up what chemistry and Will's real life experiences should make it a cake walk)

There was a time when Shyamalan was the "IT" writer/director to look for... Now, he has tu surpise his followers again, after such flops like Lady in the Water and The Last Airbender...
KillerCOck writes:

both of those are f*cking spectacular when u compare it to The Happening! Christ! some one needs to cripple M. Night so he can maybe just maybe come out of it with some f*cking inspiration.

"As his father lies dying in the c*ckpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. "

Translation: this is the movie wherein Will Smith hands the acting mantle to his retarded son. Can't you just SEE the symbolism?

"General Cypher Raige"

What, 'Admiral Code Angry' was already taken?

"they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth."

Right. They can jaunt across the galaxy, but Earth, the one and only cradle of mankind, is simply forgotten until the nappy headed hoe boy shows up.

"Plot seems rather recycled."

Yeah. It was called Battlefield Earth.

RAMBO for the win

Will is stuffin this kid down our throats the right way
Put Jaden in a couple projects on his own first
Will stars in a couple 'blockbusters' to show he still got it
Then star with your kid to pass the torch
Soon young action star replaces old instead of another young black actor

whether you like anything after 'Unbreakable' or not M.Knight (besides Airbender) is for the most part original with his films instead makin a 'Scarface' and saying its not a sequel/prequel or doin a remake just to get noticed or re-noticed in Hollywood
minkowski writes:

I'd appreciate his integrity more if he could have it wile also not pissing off people with his insipid plots.

Mermaids in swimming pools? Genocidal trees? A medieval village hiding inside a forest even though there's a friggin' road a mile away? Aliens killed by...water, even though water is essential for all known life? LMAO!

Come on, man, you and I could come with up with bullsh*t like this all day, so whatever 'originality' M. Night possesses, it's not exactly mind-bending.

This movie should be interesting.. The last time M Night had a huge actor in one of his movies that didn't flop was Bruce Willis in Sixth Sense.. So this should be interesting.

Unbreakable has grossed approximately $250 million in ticket sales, in addition to $95 million in DVD sales and later gained a strong cult following.
'Time' listed the film as one of the top ten superhero movies of all time.

Signs was awesome, the aliens were allergic to water but were probably desperate for food, like a bunch of hobos who crawl into dumpsters filled with broken glass just to get an old hamburger, so they took the risk. Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were great films in their own right and, while somewhat slow paced, had a lot of originality and integrity to them. The Village was actually an interesting take on indoctrination and the building of a closed off society through the use of fear tactics. Lady in the Water was supposed to be a fairy tale kids movie with adult themes but unfortunately came off as an ego stroking project and nothing more. The Happening was M.Night's take on B-movie horror and was kind of a huge mess like Lady in the Water as audiences did not connect with the material and most left the theater angry and confused (confused about why such a sh*tty script got greenlit). Will Smith's kid cannot act worth a damn and I hate seeing him get all these roles just because of who his dad is. Just look at his smug face up there in the corner of the article, he's like a little African American version of Donald Trump.

minkowski writes:

Unbreakable is hands-down M Night's best film, even more so than Sixth Sense which is watchable at most once, and yes, it is one of the best superhero movies all time, made even more impressive by the fact it's not based off some corny comic book fodder.

As for Signs, it's a stupid, stupid film, and not even remotely entertaining given that I have to look at Phoenix's scar-lip for an hour and a half.

So...aliens are deathly allergic to water, yet they muck through our air, which is FULL of water vapor, or the fact that the earth is 71% water, yet they just come on down and start attacking a farm house? LMAO! Stupid! Has to be one THE dumbest plot ideas in the history of cinema, now and forever. sh*t, War of the Worlds had them succ*mb to bacteria, but...water? That absolutely essential to life compound? And then M Night does it again with The Happening.

M Night needs to be banned from making anything until he takes remedial biology. He's just too damned stupid to be allowed behind a f*cking camera.
minkowski writes:
