"The Avengers" Crosses $600 Million DomesticallySubmit Comment
Marvel's "The Avengers" has now crossed the $600 million mark domestically, becoming only the third film to do so, behind "Titanic" ($658 million) and "Avatar" ($760 million). The superhero film has grossed a total of $1.438 billion globally, once again placing it behind just "Titanic" ($2.185 billion) and "Avatar" ($2.782 billion).

"The Avengers" opened on May 4th with $207.4 million, the biggest domestic debut of all time. Other records include the biggest second weekend with $103 million, fastest to reach $200 million (3 days), $300 million (9 days), $400 million (14 days), and $500 million (23 days), the highest Saturday ($69.5 million) and Sunday ($57 million).

It is among only 12 films that have grossed $1 billion at the global box office, and is one of five billion-dollar Disney releases, which also include "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," "Alice in Wonderland," "Toy Story 3," and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."

good for avengers! it'll most likely be the top film of the year.. DKR COULD beat it, but iunno.. itll be close...

No way DKR will gross over 500 mil...people will still be watching Avengers.

TDKR is going to be the first movie in history to make a googolplex in revenue. God himself will deliver the first hands-down positive review. Children will sing, saints will weep, peace on earth will reign, and the lion will lay down with the sheep, because that's the power of Christopher Nolan. Just you wait.

@mink

Do we even need to go pay and see TDKR? I mean, they've already released 90% of the footage in the 150 previews that have appeared online.

Mr. Berg, are you done in the bathroom?

Hello?

And miss the scene where Alfred reveals his Greek love for Bruce Wayne?

Good for it. I'll give Mr Whedon a good kick in the ass for it.

Yes, that would be the same outfit you are wearing Mastah Wang imean Wayne"

Well, if there's any consolation, titanic is sunk by avengers.

I think Peter Berg's math maybe wrong. It appears people are seeing The Avengers at least ten times with no end in sight. The poor f*cker is probably weeping himself to sleep each night.

I think if Batman dies and by that I,mean, fake his own death....it will gross more then Avengers

Per IMDB The Dark Knight has grossed approx $1 bil by Dec.2010 (tallied 1 years after its initial release). The Avengers has grossed an impressive $1.4 billion (tallied almost 2 months after its initial release). Id say TDKR will be tough to beat The Avengers at the box office since it is a darker superhero film intended for older audiences. Whereas The Avengers appealed to a wider demographic including importantly younger kids. It is one film that people like seeing over again and has the benefit of being released earlier in the year. Plus, as Mink likes to put it, people want to have fun in the cinema and not be depressed with their superheroes for over 2 hours. Although I for one am looking forward to TDKR even if our hero faces his darkest hour yet.

TDKR running time is 165 minutes...i think that means less showings and less money.I doubt it will reach 'the avengers' numbers.
trailertrash writes:

I don't think TDKR will reach these figures either.

It will be a big hit i'm sure, But it needs perform better outside of the USA if it's gonna get close to The Avengers.

TDK boxoffice total was driven by it's US take.
