First Look: Idris Elba in Guillermo Del ToroSubmit Comment
Guillermo Del Toro recently wrapped production on his big-budget sci-fi action film, called "Pacific Rim," which stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Rinko Kikuchi, and Charlie Day. And now we have the first phot of Elba from the movie. Check it out below and see the film in theaters on July 12th, 2013.

Plot: When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.

But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

His role in Prometheus was/is next to worthless.

Prometheus was "worthless" besides the cinematography, of which I do not care about.

Giant robots fighting monsters... Why is Elba doing a power ranger movie???

@minkowski aside from Fassbender and Rapace, isn't every character in that film pretty much worthless?

"@minkowski aside from Fassbender and Rapace, isn't every character in that film pretty much worthless?"

You mean including the characters that have neither name nor role, but exist and die just so the film has someone to kill?

Yep. Pretty much.

This movie's title sounds like a gay fetish porno.

His mainstream films have been lackluster but not so much because of him. They'd be the same with our without him. His best performance was in the lower budget picture film 'Legacy' which you guys should check out if you haven't.

Why all the hating on big Driis the Londoner?

Seriously every time I see him I love him.

His role in Prometheus was/is next to worthless - really, in what context, cause he is integral to the plot where I'm standing from-f*cks Charlize Theron and saves the world in the same move, pretty good day at the office if you ask me.

Also Luther is a bit trashy but it is fun and Elba brings such a great performance to the table (earned him a Golden Globe, too). He also made a drug kingpin LIKEABLE in the wire.

So basically Idris is awesome.

"Looks like G.I.Joe.."

Q: What does it accelerate?

A: You!

Lamest line in any movie. Ever.

^^Elba's integral to the film? He's nothing but a shadow of the black marine from Aliens, just another superficial black character trying to get some hot white ass (cliched) in one of his three very short scenes, and thus Elba's only real purpose was to play the comically heroic captain who goes down with his silly little ship.
