Eighteen years after the death of actor River Phoenix (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Stand By Me), director George Sluizer (The Vanishing) revealed that he will finish "Dark Blood," the 1993 drama that Phoenix was shooting when he died of a heart attack on Halloween night outside the Viper Room in Los Angeles.
After the actor's death, apparently of a drug overdose, Sluizer took "Dark Blood" footage and hid it out of fear that it would be destroyed. He has now re-edited the material and believes that with some voice over work, he can deliver a final cut of the film for release at the Dutch Film Festival later this year. His plan was to ask Joaquin Phoenix to provide the voice of his brother, but the Phoenix family is not cooperating.
Sluizer hopes that he can raise money from fans and has posted the project on CineCrowd. "[The] fact is, I suddenly became ill about 4 years ago -- an aneurysm -- and was told my years could be limited," he wrote. "So I wanted to finish the movie now. It came as an urgency to me, but I also knew there was still good film material."
In the movie, Phoenix plays a hermit living in the desert on a nuclear testing site as he waits for the end of the world. When a Hollywood jet-set couple (played by Judy Davis and Jonathan Pryce) arrives to find shelter, he begins a troubled relationship with the wife.

Im with the family and his crazy ass brother jauqeen. Let the man rest in peace. Next thing u know this guy will be asking rivers best friend and buisness partner johnny depp to film a role too. Man just wants a cash grab
Troubled relationship with his wife ...like he f*cks her face and taps that ass , i got a better idea go to rivers grave site dig up his grave take the body and start filming he was such a heroin junkbox
Yup, that smack was really f*cking him up. He was starting to look like the Cryptkeeper...
Always a fan of his just because of his odd, challenging roles. It was just a matter of time before he'd have broken out as a big Hollywood name, but would've probably have a predilection to small, personal projects or drama. But the guy just couldn't control his demons. Shame.
"There's nothing sadder in this world than wasted talent."
BTW, if you haven't heard of Judy Davis, I recommend the X-mas comedy of THE REF or HOSTILE HOSTAGES with Denis Leary & Kevin Spacey.
A tradition at my house at Xmas time, like A CHRISTMAS STORY.
With all due respect Mink. River Phoenix was someone he was a good actor that had appeared in many amazing films "Stand By me My own Private Idaho I love you to death" All fantastic films that really showed his talent. If you dont like him then just go f*ck yourself. Or you can fall in a deep hole and die either or works.
