"The Descent" Director Takes on Dracula in "Last Voyage of the Demeter"Submit Comment
About a year ago, it was announced that David Slade (30 Days of Night) was negotiating to direct "The Last Voyage of the Demeter," with Jude Law in talks to play the lead role, while Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) were attached to play supporting characters.

Now comes word that the project is moving forward, but with Neil Marshall (The Descent) now in talks to direct, making him just the latest helmer attached to the project, which had Robert Schwentke (Red), Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th) and Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters) attached at different points.

Demeter was the name of the ship that transported Dracula from Transylvania to London in Bram Stoker's classic tale. In that novel, it washes up on the shores of England, tattered and broken, with one raving mad survivor. The movie will show the crew of the ship being slaughtered one-by-one by a mysterious passengers, similar to "Alien."

Well, I wanted to say something negative, because that's how I feel, but the premise is actually kind of interesting. I can see this working with a solid script and a competent director, and Marshall isn't the worst choice for sure.

Gattaca was good, though, and AI wasn't entirely an abomination. But that's because the teddy bear stole the show.

Well we all know the beginning and the end so all they have to focus on is the middle
So there should be zero excuses for this sucking

Im against hollywood taking about 2 pages from a book and making a movie out of it... There ae so many brilliant books left untapped that could be created but keep throwing the budgets at tired recycled garbage that promises some cash

Don't expect much to add to the Dracula mythos. Maybe just some creepy scares now and again....and that's aiming high.

This now has potential to be good. Marshall at helm is great. And I'm sure the cast is different since the last attempt failed (which is sad since that seemed like a good cast).
