Warner Bros Planning "Contagion" SequelPosted: May 11th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Steven Soderbergh's "Contagion" had an incredible cast, comprised of Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard, Kate Winslet and Bryan Cranston. Unfortunately the film barely made back its $60 million budget domestically.
Overall, it grossed $135 million globally and has an 84% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes. Usually that's not enough to warrant a sequel. But according to OnTheGird, the studio is pushing forward with "Contagion 2" and is already looking for writers.
Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum), who wrote the original film, will serve only as a producer on the sequel. No word if Soderbergh or any of the original cast-members will return. Once a writer is announced, we'll immediately know if the studio is planning a theatrical sequel or a straight-to-DVD one.

This movie was decent but not sure a sequel is necessary!!

Yeah, that's not necessary. The first was fine, but it was a clinical instructional on how sh*t can get virally f*cked up, realistically, and not another nascent 28 Days Later-like franchise you can whore out, but thanks for the thought. *ssholes.

Correct me if I'm wrong gentleman,
but this would be the first direct to DVD sequel with that much star power in the first?

The entire original cast will be replaced with Twilight and Glee second-stringers, big_daddy.

I watched it while being sick. Not the best idea I ever had... but the first one was pretty good and I wonder what the second one will be about? Contagion 2 - Revenge of Super-AIDS?

I thought they already made a sequel to this film. It was called Resident Evil.

Why? The first was a visual manual for how sh*t would probably go down. It was decent enough but a sequel is unnecessary. It was definitely better, imo, than Soderberghs' last film--Haywire. Someone should reel him in. Everything post-Traffic is his quirky take on a genre. The Oceans films were "enablers" of sorts to the current style of his filmmaking. I never cared for the Ocean films.

Doubt Soderbergh will be involved since he's already in his countdown of movies before he supposedly retires, therefore, I doubt you'll the whole cast again. Anyway, didn't most die in the movie?
Sodebergh has that ability to bring in an almost all A List cast.
Proof? How many directors do you know brings in an unknown as the female protagonist, padding her with big Hollywood names like in HAYWIRE. All Soderbergh.
