"The Avengers" Gives "John Carter" a Box Office Boost

"The Avengers" Gives "John Carter" a Box Office BoostSubmit Comment
Due to a hefty production budget and a massive marketing campaign, Disney ended up losing $200 million on "John Carter." In an attempt to reduce some of those loses, the studio paired the film with "The Avengers" as a double feature offered at more than 150 drive-ins across the country.

Usually, drive-ins don't boost a film's gross by all that much, but since "The Avengers" scored the biggest weekend of all time, "John Carter" actually jumped to 12th place at the domestic box office, from 38th place the week prior. "Carter" took in $1.5 million, which is 1,223% more over the previous weekend.

The average cost of a drive-in ticket is $8. Studios don't disclose how they divide the ticket sales between the two films. But as of right now, "Carter" has grossed $70.8 million domestically and $208.2 million overseas.

Yeah, people paid more for a double-feature ticket, but did they STAY for John Carter? Which one played FIRST? Because I imagine they drove right the f*ck off when they saw that 100 year old horse sh*t Avatar-Star Wars visual knock off.
