Ron Howard Confirms "The Dark Tower" is Still HappeningPosted: May 8th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
The original plan was for Universal Pictures to develop three films and two limited-run TV series based on Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" books. Ron Howard was on board to direct from a script by Akiva Goldsman. Javier Bardem was in talks to play gunslinger Roland Deschain.
But then Universal got a look at the budget and immediately backed out. Howard then took the project to Warner Bros and HBO, but with a lowered budget. Apparently everything is now going smooth, because Howard has just posted a message on his Twitter account, stating: "Spent the day today in story session on 'Dark Tower.' Terrific meeting with Akiva Goldsman and [producer] Erica Huggins (J. Edgar). No timetables, but very positive."
After Universal bailed, Warners bought Goldsman's script and are now paying him to do a polish. Everyone is still on board, including Bardem, and the goal is to begin shooting in the first quarter of 2013.

I'll give this a shot as long as Javier Bardem is apart of this. Still gotta read the books!

@eskimo - Read the books before making a comment about who should play the main character.

I agree that anybody but Ron Howard would make an amazing Dark Tower movie/tv series. And for once, I agree with Mink! Darabont would tear it up.
