David Tennant in "Fast and the Furious 6," Sofia Vergara in "Machete Kills"Submit Comment
The cast of "Fast and Furious 6" keep growing. We already reported that Rihanna, Luke Evans (The Raven) and Gina Carano (Haywire) are all in talks to join the new film, and now comes word that David Tennant (Fright Night, "Doctor Who") is close to coming on board as well. No word on the role he'll play.

Meanwhile, "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara is in negotiation to join the sequel to "Machete," called "Machete Kills," which will once again be directed by Robert Rodriguez. The actress will play Madame Desdemona, a leather-clad mistress whose harlots have information for Machete.

She joins a cast that includes Danny Trejo, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Amber Heard, Demian Bichir and Jessica Alba. Production is set to begin this month in Texas.

David Tennant will reprise his role as The Docotor where he will travel back in time to the setting of the first movie where his companion will kill the main characters thus making this franchise now exsistent

The most surprising thing about MACHETE is that Rodriguez is able to bring big names like De Niro, Gibson, Bichir to small change, B movie fare...

Wonder if he still knows he's still doing a grindhouse exploitation sequel, but on the other hand, those names are too big to turn down...

As for F & F 6....meh. The new additions new comers who are barely getting their Hollywood toes wet IMO.

"those names are too big to turn down..."

Please. Gibson is far more known these days for his angry, homicidal racist rants than his acting, which last involved Mel shoving his hand up a beaver's ass, and Deniro hasn't led a good film since Heat back in 1995.

Deniro's the dope that lent his voice to Shark Take, turned down The Departed for The Good Shepherd and starred in not one, but two, Fockers films.

And need I remind anyone he was in the first Machete?

OTOH, Robert Rodriquez, whore or not, churns out one moneymaker after another.

@rocketman...really?...I love Tennant as Doctor Who but Matt Smith isn't ruining it.
Its the writing. Hes a brilliant Doctor. Blaming Matt Smith is like blaming the coach of a sports team when really its the team that fails. Hes doing the best he can with what he is given.

Pertwee/Baker/Davison Dr Who at it's peak, I haven't seen any of the new series since it came back on the TV a few years ago.

@Mink
Gibson & his rants? De Niro wanting to work with everbody? Yeah, they're out there but in this case we're not talking about the headlines or their personality. We're talking about their body of work. Gibson & De Niro are the Hollywood standard for which many are measured. sh*t, even Clint Eastwood has doiped of late & G Hackman has folded.

How many of us wouldn't give our left nut to have half of the acting talent of a De Niro or Gibson? I mean, how old are they? How famous are they? Both are Oscar winners...but remember fame, like life, is cyclical. How many comebacks have we seen recently?

And about Gibson's comeback, guess you haven't read the review for GET THE GRINGO on Joblo, huh? F*cker looks like he on his way back...

Cheers, bud.

Gibson & De Niro are the Hollywood standard for which many are measured

Yeah 15/20 years ago, Not so much now ...

Eastwood and Hackman (And Gibson,De Niro for that matter) are up there as some of my favorite actors of all time.

Hackman has gotten off the Hollywood treadmill he didn't want to go down the De Niro films of shameless route.

Eastwood has gone behind the camera now and will only star in a film once in a blue moon like he said " Man's got to know his limitations"
minkowski writes:

I think it's one thing to look over a man's lifetime of work and make a balanced, seasoned determination, as a cinephile, and another to be the average Joe who doesn't give a sh*t who headlined Taxi Driver or Mad Max, and that's the important distinction, to not confuse what you know as a tiny informed minority, with how the other 99% feels.

And I think the 99% feel Gibson and DeNiro are old, washed-up actors from another generation, and you may or may not agree with that assessment, but regardless, it's as valid as yours or mine, no matter how or what we may feel otherwise.

"Hackman has gotten off the Hollywood treadmill he didn't want to go down the De Niro films of shameless route."

Hackman was responsible. He treated his career like a business. He saved, he invested, he had a portfolio devised to assist a generous retirement, and when the time came, he retired, because I think he valued spending his last decades with family rather than the rat-race of Hollywood, struggling to keep up leases and mortgages on cars and boats and houses he couldn't afford, like some people...
CelluloidMan writes:

I don't know Mink, tough to talk about what's your opinion of what the other 99% of people think. That's a bold statement, but I kinda get what your saying.

My point is that they're still relevant because they still draw out the crowds. Not much like before, but still than most actors out there...

As for Hackman, good for him if he's able to have his life with his family & was shrewd with his money and able to relax for the rest of his days. And maybe he did get a little jaded by Hollywood, kinda like B. Murray or Anthony Hopkins...but that's only one way to go...

There have been other actors that practiced their craft well into their old age that still enjoy going to work....there's Brian Cox, Albert Finney, Bill Nighy, Albert Brooks, or Michael Douglas. No ego, all work.

Others worked so long, they acted and acted until they couldn't act anymore having passed on with dignity & great body of work. Take Richard Harris, Jack Lemmon, Walter Mattheau, Pete Postelwaite, or Jessica Tandy...They all left us leaving great movie memories.

It's really what you make of it and if Hackman left because of lack of interesting roles, I think Robin Williams said it best, "...the good roles are out there, you just have to find them..."

But that's just me...cheers.
