"The Avengers" May Gross $600 Million by Sunday?Submit Comment
"The Avengers," which Marvel started releasing internationally only late last week, is easily on track to become the most successful Marvel film, besting the $623 million worldwide gross of "Iron Man 2."

In its first six day, "The Avengers" already earned $218 million and could get a boost on Tuesday because of the May Day holiday in many foreign markets. At this pace, the movie will likely gross $350 million - $400 million overseas by Sunday.

In North America, it will be released at midnight on Thursday. By the end of the weekend, experts believe the film could gross more than $150 million domestically, and have a total worldwide take between $500 million and $600 million. And if that happens, "The Avengers" should have no problem breaking the $1 billion mark theatrically.

Of course it was gonna open huge, the question is, will it drop off quick or not?

This is f&^$%ing awesome! Everyone knew this movie would make MEGA bucks, and if it beats out Avatar: the 500 million dollar remake of Fern Gully, that will be even better!!!

I hope Joss Whedon calls up Cameron and tells him to suck his c$%^#!

I only hope Joss will get a decent percentage from the film and then make all the projects he's dreamed about like Christopher Nolan did...

Sucks to be America atm.

I'm a Aussie, seen it twice in theatre, then downloaded a sh*tty cam corded copy, watched that another 7-8 times now.

Marvel should be very proud. They're raking in the money, while Warner Brothers grasps on TDKR's takings at the box office. Speaking long term, Marvel have won outright.

Suck it WB, you can't handle your superhero properties. Get a clue.

Marvel's Spiderman movies have each grossed around 800,000,000 a piece. Which "currently" makes them the most successful Marvel films. However, that might change this Summer.

@Johnnyb

Why would it not be? The Avengers is kick-starting the summer, TDKR and Prometheus still don't come out for a while.

At the moment there is really nothing else to see and The Avengers has every hallmark of a blockbuster.

It's just too early to tell what will happen, but in regards to hallmarks of blockbusters, the above films that I have mentioned share those hallmarks as well.

It will break a billion, don't see it beating "Avaturd" though.

"TDKR" will easily break a billion and has a good chance of beating "Avaturd" but I just do not see it happening so soon.

The Avaturd 2 will most likely break Avaturd's record.

If Avengers earn 1 billion, and Dark Knight Rises earns 1 billion, Dark Knight Rises has earned more. Simply because 3D tickets are more expensive.

This will clearly be a huge summer for Hollyweird. Every one who says this best batman though I doubt. Mostly because they share the same audiences. I think it will be more of a race between studios in regards to who made a billion the fastest. And personally the Avengers Batman and Prometheus will be the only films worth seeing this summer in regards to summer blockbusters.
