Early in "The Avengers" development, there were talks of Ant-Man and The Wasp being part of the movie, since both are the founding members of the team. At one point, Eva Longoria was rumored to play The Wasp.
Director Joss Whedon then revealed that the two characters will not appear in the film. But now he tells NY Daily News that The Wasp was written into the original script, back when Scarlett Johansson wasn't involved.
The problem was finding a way to include all the characters, something he was doing even all through production. "Trying to figure out the way you want to introduce all those characters, that was stuff we were still tweaking in the edit," he explained.

Put the Wasp with the Ant-man movie.
Put Black Widow and/or Hawkeye in Cap 2.
Put a new hero in solo Hulk movie.
Put more "items" in Odins vault in Thor 2.

Avengers 2 should have Thanos kicking ass and taking names with the Infinity Gauntlet, then kills a couple of them... Hulk rages, etc etc. then use Gauntlet to bring em' back.

They'll probably be including her in part 2. As I recall, Whedon was spitballin' including new characters in the sequel.
