"Need for Speed" Video Game to Become a MoviePosted: April 13th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  There are plenty of studios that would love their own "Fast and Furious" franchise, which is why Electronic Arts has hired George and John Gatins (Real Steel) to write a movie script based on the company's "Need for Speed" video game, which has generated more than $100 million since its first released in 1994.
At this point, Warner Bros, Sony and Paramount are all interested in acquiring the rights to the property, with Paramount being the frontrunner. Universal is really the only studio not vying for the project since it already owns "Fast and the Furious" and is planning to begin filming the sixth installment later this year.
Electronic Arts released "Need for Speed: The Run" as the 18th game in the franchise last November. Game was an attempt to freshen up the series by developing a plot for the first time and hiring actors Sean Faris (Never Back Down) and Christina Hendricks ("Mad Men") to play lead roles in a race from San Francisco to New York City.

@Pornfly: If that was a reference to me, then thank you kindly. If not, then I don't want to hear about it.
How about turning a good and STORY-based game to the silver screen? And it doesn't matter if the latest installment had vague story elements, in the end it's all about driving a car really fast.
Do they really think that people will line up for a franchise that is a copy of a franchise that is a copy of a game?

I know that lots of people would compare this movie to the Fast and The Furious series if this movie ever got made.
Still I would like have a Need For Speed movie being made.
Let's hope Uwe Boll and Michael Bay don't get involed into this kind of project.

@nawtnt
This is a film that definately needs someone like michael bay. Its not going to be any deep movie its going to have to be about action. Bay deserves some credit as he is good at action.
I do agree with you on uwe boll though. He deserves no credit whatsoever, he is a complete turd.

TonyWalnuts, thanks for agreeing on Uwe Boll but I am not really sure about Michael Bay getting ivolved in this movie, I mean he's good with action but not with the story.
The first Transformers movie was great then the second movie came out which had only action in it, making it boring for me and then the third movie came out too which was better than the second one and not great as the first one.

Need for Speed? Saw this already, it was called Gone in 60 Seconds. '
How about a Grand Theft Auto movie done in the same off-the-cusp style like Shoot Em Up? No hold's barred action with insane stunts and a cheeky bastard for the hero.

There's absolutely no material in the video game franchise for a movie. As Chilll said, yeah a Cannonbal remake would be good.
Or what Mink said.
