David Cronenberg in Talks for "The Hunger Games" Sequel

David Cronenberg in Talks for "The Hunger Games" SequelSubmit Comment
A few days ago, director Gary Ross announced that he will not be returning for the sequel to "The Hunger Games," called "Catching Fire." Lionsgate wants to begin shooting in August so there's a rush to find Ross' replacement.

The studio is looking to spend less than it would have cost to bring back Ross. Plus the director must please the fans and Suzanne Collins, the author of the three books.

On the short list are Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men), who was brought on by Warner Bros to direct the third "Harry Potter" installment after Chris Columbus left. So he seems like a good fit. Other contenders are David Cronenberg (Eastern Promises, A History of Violence) and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel, 21 Grams).

I think anyone would be a fool to come on for less than what the first guy got paid.

I mean, that's like having to pay more than your pal to screw some stripper at a keg party.

And Cronenberg, no, it would be a waste of talent to have him helm some pop-cultural film, and a sequel to boot.

Get the Cuaron guy; he likes to sell out to franchise mania.

How come Cronenberg is cheaper than this guy Ross?

Ross was looking for a significant increase in pay for the sequel. Lionsgate is looking for a director who would cost less than that amount, not necessarily less than what Ross earned on the first film.

The cost to bring him back would be higher than the first movie's pay, so if they can keep the same salary or less than what was needed to bring back Ross, then it's a win-win for the almighty budget. The working class call these people "scabs." Reality calls them opportunists.

"Lionsgate is looking for a director who would cost less than that amount, not necessarily less than what Ross earned on the first film."

So the new director has to take something more than or equal to what Ross got paid the first time around, but less than what Ross wanted for the sequel. The good old squeeze theorem.

Should have read that a bit more closely.

Still don't see why they didn't pay Ross what he wanted.

My bet goes for Cronenberg, enough with Cuaron vision after Harry 3 and Iņarritu, well I guess he would have to continue with his complex trio stories, he always do.....

It would be a waste of talent if Cronenberg did this, but still, imagine how awesome it would be.

But they will probably get someone like Joe Johnston.
