"Sabrina The Teenage Witch" to Become Live-Action Superhero Film

"Sabrina The Teenage Witch" to Become Live-Action Superhero FilmSubmit Comment
Sony Pictures is developing a new movie based on "Sabrina The Teenage Witch," which originated as a 1960s Archie Comics, and later turned into an animated TV series in 1969, 1971, and in 1999. The property then became a TV sitcom, which ran for seven season and starred Melissa Joan Hart.

The new live-action film will be an origin story in the vein of "Spider-Man," about a young girl coming to terms with her remarkable powers. Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Die in a Gunfight) will write the script, "Real Steel" producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford are producing, and Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Mr. Popper's Penguins, The Spiderwick Chronicles) is in talks to direct.

The plan is to cast an unknown actress to play Sabrina and to keep the talking black cat Salem, who is a transformed prince.

Will this turn out to be a p*ssy movie? What live action movie are talking about? Its not like Sabrina will turn out to be Zorro or The Lone Ranger. He will bring out guns instead of broom sticks? My guess is she will bring the mighty stick that Zeus had. hahahaha!!!!

I will shamefully admit that I liked the show when I was a kid.

I was not the brightest of children.

Only reason to watch the series was for "Sabrina" Melissa Joan Hart.

Saying that...there is no way I will watch this movie.

Actually I'm surprised no one has tried to make an Archie movie.

Its a long shot, though. Its something our grandparents dabbled into but not many took too seriously...IDK if there would be a large fanbase for this...

f*ck Archie, I want to see a Dagwood Bumstead movie.

This is there way of saying hey we can take comics with teens who have powers and make them good movies. But I for one am not expecting anything huge. Here's how they will go, two down out half ass decent (if that) mild comedians as the aunts and a young chick who's on some pedos countdown to eighteen page as the lead

^^Actually, to be pedantic, that would be an ephebophile, not a pedophile.

Mink

More people probably know Archie more than Dagwood Bumstead. Archie at least has that love triangle advantage. What does Dagwood bring in? Sh!t so old I forgot...

But, yeah, I'd watch that sh!t too...or f*ck it, throw some "Family Circus" or "Calvin and Hobbes" while your at it...worked for Marmaduke didn't it?...LOL
minkowski writes:

@Celluloid: Well, I would think more people know Dagwood than Archie, actually, because Dagwood is syndicated into almost every newspaper in the US, and has been for decades, whereas Archie barely makes it any farther than a comic pamphlet at the supermarket check stand.

And you mentioned Family Circus...surprising they haven't done that already, now that you mention it. Wonder who owns the right...

OTOH, Calvin and Hobbes will NEVER get a movie. Ever. Did I say never? Watterson owns the rights and has essentially disavowed the entire strip, so far as to doing very private gallery showings of his rather bad non-comic art with nary a mention of the strip, and when someone mentions C and H, he takes a huge long drawn-out sigh and walks away.

He's also stated in emphatic terms there will no more develop on the characters, and frankly, imo, his entire attitude sucks, but I say that as a selfish fan.
