Director Gary Ross Will NOT Return for "The Hunger Games" Sequel

Director Gary Ross Will NOT Return for "The Hunger Games" SequelSubmit Comment
Lionsgate is planning to begin shooting the sequel to "The Hunger Games," called "Catching Fire," this fall. But there has been some doubt about whether Gary Ross, who co-wrote and directed the first film, will return.

THR has been reporting that Ross and Lionsgate have been having some heated negotiations, which means that there's a strong possibility that Ross may end up being replaced. Insiders, however, claim that the director will likely return, since he has already started work with Simon Beaufoy (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire) to write the sequel script.

Now comes word that Ross has officially exited the franchise. He resigned earlier this week in order to focus his attention on other projects. The Playlist says that those heated negotiations were about money, and Lionsgate simply wasn't willing to give Ross much of an increase in pay even though the first film has already grossed $384 million on a $78 million budget.

Greedy and Greedier.

Well, actually I just read somewhere that Ross only signed on for 1.5 mil plus 5% on the backend. Which is more than my job at the convenience store, but not in the big scheme of things.

This is probably for the best for the franchise. If there was one big gaping problem with the movie (There were many for me) it was the directing.

Five percent of a likely $400 million haul is like what, $20 million right? What the f*ck else does the hack want? I wouldn't give em' $20 for the sh*tty job he did.

I sat through about thirty minutes of this at the cinema because I had some time to kill after my other movie and this flick was so utterly bleh and meh to me. Even simple dialogue scenes had the camera shaking like Michael J. Fox was holding the f*cking camera. Its like really a $80 million budget and you can't afford a goddamn stedicam or glidecam for your cameras? Point the thing straight at least.

Good. This sh*t should be rated R. I liked it, but man it could have been spool much better.

THG only opens on Monday here, so I can't say I'll miss the guy but its rated 16 V so hopefully the long wait means they cut less violence.

Tom cruise has it right. New director for every movie in the franchise. Although i wouldnt want anyone but peter jackson touching anything lotr/hobbit related. Im still not ok with andy serkis directing his sections
