First Look: Christoph Waltz in "Django Unchained"Submit Comment
Today we have the first photos from the set of Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained," which is currently shooting in New Orleans, Louisiana. The photos feature the first look at Christoph Waltz and a shot of Tarantino. Check out the two photos below.

In the movie, Django (Jamie Foxx) is a slave who is liberated by a German dentist-turned-bounty hunter (Waltz) and taught the tricks of the trade by his mentor. Django's major goal in life is to recover his wife (Kerry Washington), and to do it he needs to get past the villainous ranch owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), who runs Candyland, a despicable club and plantation in Mississippi where female slaves are exploited as sex objects and males are pitted against each other in death matches. Candyland is a slave's worst nightmare, and that is where Django's wife Broomhilda is an abused slave.

The rest of the cast is comprised of Samuel L. Jackson, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kurt Russell, Don Johnson, Joseph Goron-Levitt, and RZA. "Django Unchained" is set to hit theaters on December 25th.

Sam Jackson is in everything but porn, Russell I thought died, and Don Johnson? Last cinematic hit he had was as the voice of Lt. Falcon in GI Joe the Movie, and only as a cult favorite. Caprio is out from under the skirt of his master Scorsese, and there doesn't seem to be many, if any, hot chicks.

Pass.

sam jackson and russel are great with QT imo. Leo and Foxx can both act so that will be pretty interesting, and hopefully waltz can match his perfomance in Bastards. Ill give any of his movies a chance!

I can see Tarantino making Candyland something like the Tittytwister. Where low lifes come to experience a den of debauchery. Now Tarantino is adding slavery death brawls to the mix. This can only be an R-Rated film because of the subject matter. Expect DeCaprio will turn heads as a sadistic slavery owner.

@drewsmit - I agree, Tarantino needs to tread softly with a film that may grossly show the exploits of slavery. This is no doubt Tarantino's attempt at making a Spaghetti Western and a tale of a slave's rise & revenge against a brutal master. There is still a lot of resentment especially hearing stories like Trayvon Martin and worst still Spike Lee's escalation retaliation. Today's headlines are still rampant with threats of racially sparked violence just looming on the horizon. Unfortunately, I can see theatre related violence stemming from this film being released.

Kurt Russell? Didnt he turn down the expendables because he didnt want to be part of an ensemble cast, as if the work was just rolling in for him. I highly doubt he has a massive role in this. TURD

Thanks for that Minkowski, an interesting article. I love how some of these has beens act when they're offered a big action hit, which is what they were famous for. The role did not have enough depth, What? I can understand the likes of Whitaker turning it down at that point but not the rest.

How tall is Chris? Or better yet, how short is Chris? He always looks about four feet eight inches.

It's going to be an interesting movie , to say the least . And as racist as the day is long , but it won't hold a candle to Blazing Saddles .
