Video: "Anchorman" Sequel is Officially Greenlit

Video: "Anchorman" Sequel is Officially GreenlitSubmit Comment
There have been talks about "Anchorman 2," even since the first film hit theaters back in 2004. But two years ago, director Adam McKay revealed that Paramount Pictures passed on the sequel even after the budget was lowered significantly.

But on an episode of "Conan," Will Ferrell appeared as Ron Burgundy to insult Conan and make the big announcement that the studio has officially greenlit "Anchorman 2." Watch his appearance in the video below.

McKay will return to write and direct, Judd Apatow will produce, and Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner will all return to reprise their roles. McKay and Ferrell are still discussing ideas for the new film.

As much as I love the first one. I've got a strange feeling this won't be as good. But I suppose as all the old cast are back together and Mckay is directing again it has potential.

@Dirt
Originally Todd Phillips WAS going to do a sequel, but refused when the studio suits screwed him over in a deal. Spiteful, he went with another studio to do THE HANGOVER which made serious bank.

Now, the movie rights got bought by Paramount & the issue has mellowed out, but since then Ferrell have gotten too busy & got too complicated to set something up...well thats what Phillips says.

Supposedly a script by the co-writer of the original that had the gang going to Spring Break was done in 2006, but was turned down by Ferrell/ Vaughn. I'm guessing Phillips might not have been involved in that deal.

Shame...

Cinemaisdead writes:

CelluloidMan- That could have been OK considering my favourite Todd Phillips film, Old School, had a lot of the same cast as Anchor Man although it was a slightly less crazy type of humour. One of the main strengths of Anchorman is the cast and you know the majority of the lines were improvised so no amount of sh*t script should be able to ruin this one. Just need the right amount of effort from all parties.

I've developed an ad hoc Firefox plugin using Javascript that strips their posting tables from WorstPreviews' threads, which means I do not see *anything* from them.

I don't see their garbage avatars, their insipid names or their diarrhetic posts.

So when you quote them, it only suffices to spread their obnoxious nonsense.

minkowski writes:

Yep, the George Bush impersonations were f*cking funny, better than the Tina Fey Palin impersonation, even though Fey looks more like Palin than Farrell looks like Bush.

Like I said, just never saw the first one, though I did see Land of the Lost and that had to be one of the worst films in recent memory. Could've been a hell of a lot funnier but it wasn't. Shame.

minkowski writes:

"I take it Bruce Willis takes the piss out of himself which I always like in actors."

Some. Moreso than 16 Blocks which was more like Lucky Number Slevin, regarding his role, wherein both he's hard-edged and, in general, unlikeable. In Cop Out, he's mos' definitely more agreeable, and doesn't take himself seriously. Not a horrid film, but ruined by Def and a weak, generic script.

Haven't seen 21 Jump Street, but I'm not inclined to do so, not until I watch it either cheap or entirely for free. Don't like the poster either, the tagline of which is "The only thing getting blown tonight is their cover". Stupid.

As for the server thing, I'd have to trick that stupid f*ck, and even if I said, "here's their ip, both of them are coming from the same one", no one would care or believe me, and I could see how it might backfire. You and I know they're the same person, but that's what makes us smart and them stupid.

lol

I just watched LB the other night. Great movie, love the attitude Bruce brings to the film. Hated that they killed Berry off so early but what the hell. Can't say I'm much of a fan of Wayans either but he did bring some contrast to Bruce's hard-nosed noir detective role. And yeah, the one liners. Awesome.

I just spent all afternoon creating this software, and continue to bring them up even after they stop posting for the day. But remember, I could care less about the trolls.

"The guy just seems to make way to many movies now, Maybe he has a bet with De Niro who can make the most sh*t films in the space of 2 years or something."

Maybe, but I do know they both lost to Nic Cage.

@ Danger

(said u prolly don't appreciate the x-files)

I wouldnt say that, Mink knows the good stuff.. So he damn well better like the X-Files.. lol I've watched every episode, and am on my second go round now :P

@Mink
i was just kidding lol I'm nowhere near being able to call myself a Regular on here or one of the old timers but someday! And thanks for the the kindness, you could have easily said "Because your not"

Also how did this post turn into kind words about my good buddy Bruce willis! f*ck i love that guy lol

But i will admit he has made some sh*tty movies before. I Really liked All the Die hards, Armageddon, Mercury Rising, The Kid, Sixth Sense, Death becomes her, Pulp Fiction, 12 monkeys, Fifth Element, Unbreakable, Bandits among others :P What im saying is: I f*cking love BW, Everyone has that actor where no matter the film They will watch as long as he/she is in it. Bruce is that for me lol

lol Everybody i know, knows about how much i love the movie Die Hard and they all tease me about it, Today i was at a buddy's when i saw a dvd copy laying in his movies i grabbed it and started going "Diiieee Harrdd!" They all laughed and started making jokes like " Thats the one that takes place in the twin towers right" lol f*ckers.. Anywhore.. This is getting long.. peace lol

One of my favorite shows of all time is, was the X-Files, save the mid-seventh season on, so I have no clue what those two rubber d*cks are yapping about, per your quote of what one of them said, but their post probably nothing, as usual.

And yeah, I've seen the X-files probably ten times a piece per season, I mean, the show went off the air in 2002? 2003? Way back when.

Favorite early ep was Conduit and the VHS backer Ice, a slight rip of The Thing. Also, the season 5 to 6 episode arc with 'Prometheus' et al. Like three episodes. The one with the alien in the ice.

Least favorite episodes? Anything from season 8 or 9. Even the series finale sucked imo.

Finally, one of the BEST scenes in the entire series:

At bando you should check out winters passing. With ed Harris and zoey deschanel. Its really good. I think ferrell shines in drama compared to comedy. Step brothers was good but it also had a funny good supporting cast much like anchorman does. I mean land of the lost is a perfect example of that. Farrell headlings equals fail, but cameos and ensemble comedies he does way better. Box office proves it

There's nothing more that i love then the X-Files lol Loved the first movie as well, Second kinda sucked but was decent lol.. as for Episodes, one of my all time Fav's (That isnt part of the whole alien mythology) is "Monday" The episode that goes from the movie Groundhogs day, where this women is living a bank robbery over and over and Mulder and scully keeps dying while she try's to warn them.

I also always loved the episode "Detour" in season 5 Where they're being chased in the woods by an invisible creature.

I Can't really remember all my fav episodes to mention.. But i always loved Alex Krycek, his character was awesome.. I have the "I Want to Believe poster in my room to the left of me lol

And finally the best qoute mulder ever said.

"I would never lie. I willfully participate in a campaign of misinformation"- Mulder

Bad Blood was a another really great Xfiles episode, imo. But on the same note, I can't stand the one season 2 post-Scully ep '3', with the female vampire. Also, the one with the killer video game and Jade Blue Afterglow doing her Basic Instinct impersonation wasn't all that great either. And 'Home' was just downright wrong.

True home was boring.. and That killer video game episode is one of my next episodes to watch.. Meh. I'm on season 6, another episode i like from season 6 is the one where that guy has unbelievably good luck. I Think ill watch that one next :P
minkowski writes:

lol, well wait till you get the ep where these two brothers meet a real life genie in the bottle, and the latter season episode where some guy has the power to make his house into the Bary Bunch home. I kid you not. Season six was the last truly great one, really, though some of 7 8 and 9 aren't terrible.
