"Braveheart" TV Series in the WorksPosted: March 13th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
STV Productions is in development on a historical drama TV series based on William Wallace, the war hero who was portrayed by Mel Gibson in the award-winning "Braveheart." The goal is to create a series in the vein of Starz's "Spartacus" and HBO's "Game of Thrones."
Mick Davis (The Eleventh Hour) will write the project, which will focus on Wallace's back story, his years spent attempting to unify Scotland, his loves and losses as well as his legendary battles with King Edward the Longshank and rival Robert the Bruce.
"This was a turbulent time in Scotland's history, in which William Wallace had a starring and pivotal role," said STV. "We plan to delve deep into his character and explore his passions, bringing parts of history to life in a spectacular and raw depiction."

I loved the film, but this TV series smells of exploitation. Could be good, but really, I think we've seen all we need to see of William Wallace. Mel did it best, even if Braveheart is largely a work of fiction.

The funny thing is Mink, Mark McManus who played Taggart (Brilliantly) died back in the mid 90's and the show is still going on today.

Depending which network picks this up(cable only)will it get the attention/budget it deserves
It might work
I predict Wyatt Earp and/or Rob Roy series on a competing network
Just keep these shows off ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX

They just used other characters from the show introduced a couple of new ones and kept the name of the show.
It's something we do here now and then.
We did the same sort of thing with Morse (wellworth checking out BTW) the Awesome John Thaw left the show and they carried it on with his sidekick and called it Lewis.
