Tim Burton's Animated "Frankenweenie" Trailer

Disney has unveiled the official trailer for Tim Burton's stop-motion animated film "Frankenweenie," which is based on Burton's 1984 short by the same name. Check it out below.

Plot: After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life - with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor's fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new "leash on life" can be monstrous.

"Frankenweenie" is written by John August (Big Fish) and features the voices of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, and Atticus Shaffer. It is set to hit conventional and 3D theaters on October 5th.

Much better player, Alex.

Anyway, how is this any different than Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice? Has the same vibe, even though it's cg and has a dog.

I'll still watch it, but the grey-scale really isn't selling me. Cheap way to harken back to black and white Frankenstein films, but I guess that was the point.

I'm telling you, people are going to think this is the Lorena Bobbit story again. Better change it to Frankendog or better yet, Oscar Meyer, because do you have any idea what the f*ck they put into hot dogs?

The only thing that amazes me in this entire article is that Burton's lover boy Johnny Depp isn't in this.

I wonder. Can Tim Burton do a normal movie? I mean, is he PHYSICALLY capable of making a film that's normal? You know, traditional, conventional cinema, anything but the goth sh*t he does in every f*cking film?

In fact, here's a wager, to you Burton: I will f*ck Helena Bonham Carter, and not puke (important part), if you can make a film, even a short film, that isn't full of gothic camp.

Can you do it?
vaodsi writes:

I'm just barely buying into the whole gray scale thing. Nightmare and corpse bride both had color and retained their black and white gothic vibe. Looks good though.

@Minkowski "I wonder. Can Tim Burton do a normal movie? I mean, is he PHYSICALLY capable of making a film that's normal? You know, traditional, conventional cinema, anything but the goth sh*t he does in every f*cking film?"

uhh have you seen BIG FISH? The "normal" sequences in that film are absolutely brilliant and directed wonderfully in a very conventional manner, I think you should look into more of his work before open your mouth.

@everyone else

anyway regardless, Tim has a style and why should he be ridiculed for being the filmmaker he is?

I think he is unfairly singled out...look at all the other directors who make the same types of films over and over...David Fincher, Scorsese, Michael Bay, etc....they all have a style and they all have made numerous films that don't veer far off the path from their others...why doesn't everyone complain about them?

and why does everyone love to hate on Tim Burton because he regularly casts Johnny & Helena? I mean if they were BAD actors I'd understand...or if they were wrong for the part I'd get it...but I don't think they've ever been miscast...and they're both extremely talented...

It's extremely common for Directors to frequently cast the same actor, it's been happening for years...examples like Hitchc*ck with Jimmy Stewart, Scorsese with DeNiro & Dicaprio, Cronenberg with Viggo, Tarantino & Samuel L. Jackson, Kubrick & Sellers....point is it's stupid to single him out for doing the same stuff everyone else does...

why all the Burton hate? He's made some of our favorite films!!!

I don't really see where your post is coming from. Mink and I never said we hated Burton. Mink questioned his versatility, that's all. I appreciate Burton because of his macabre style, just like I used to enjoy vintage Shyamalan (sixth sense, unbreakable, signs) for his twist endings. But any signature, no matter how cool, can become tedious if overdone. I think Burton is a good director. What his films lack in pacing is made up for in style. But beauty is only skin deep, and his latest films have been rusty in the story and pacing departments. I think if you reread our comments you'll see that many are actually going to see this. But this is worstpreviews. Diferences will always be mocked... its not hate, just fun. I mean, think of all the jokes that would ensue if anyone on here found out I was a Jew...

"think of all the jokes that would ensue if anyone on here found out I was a Jew..."

In all seriousness, I have nothing whatsoever against Jews or Israel. I'm a big supporter of them and their nation, and Jews in general.

I do think the Jew jokes aren't all that great, and if people knew that Alex is Jewish, judging by his last name, we might think otherwise. Why do I do it? Hard to get a laugh here sometimes. I blame it on a lack of good trolls.

Holy crap there is a lot of love on this board.

Getting back to the WP article...Tim Burton is one of the most original filmakers who unfortunately borrows from himself time and time again. He is the master of the macabre and gothic shadow halls. I love his work and was fortunate to catch the Tim Burton Exhibit of his art and set props when it toured Toronto's TIFF. Burton's remake of The Planet of the Apes does standout beyond the gothic mold. And nice to see him explore the musical with Sweeney Todd - even if it does recycle the talents of Depp and HBC.

Frankenweenie was originally made by Burton for Disney as a short '84. Which interestingly enough, Disney fired his ass for making a flick considered too dark and sinister for kids. Hopefully Burton can payback this bitch against those Disney Execs. And the new version will up the ante as today's kids can take a lot more from the scare department.

Looking forward to it.

minkowski writes:

"Looking forward to it."

Nah. He's just too deliberately repetitive. He makes films for himself, and not the audiences, and I feel he believes that people can either like what he likes or they can go to hell.

People would say that makes him a true artist and not a commercial filmmaker, like say Bay, and yeah, I would agree. I just don't cotton to his repetitive style and I never will, and that's too bad because he has style and talent, alas he just never does much to allow it any substantial, tangible growth.

@Mink – thanks for the reply. To each their own.

@Bullit – “Yep, and it’s only the beginning” The beginning of what? The use of movie boards to sound off racial, ethnic, sexual grievances, whether direct or implied? Posters may offend, you may offend, its a free board, but you have to remember its nothing personal. And continuing this tennis match is honestly an exercise in futility. Reviewing the above, you threaded after taking offence to Mink’s comment on Jewish people (which I will not engage). How about sharing your thoughts on Frankenweenie? Or does that belong on another message board?
minkowski writes:

"I saw my name listed here...

You're not, directly, but instead indirectly, as the recipient of another member coming to WP merely for the purpose of sucking you off, and not as a avid/passive film buff.

Congratulations.

"The use of movie boards to sound off racial, ethnic, sexual grievances, whether direct or implied?"

You've been gone a LONG time, because this isn't your father's WP, if you know what I mean. Talking about film isn't what we do here anymore, not primarily, and I long gave up giving a sh*t and trying to get it back to that condition. The place has become a unstimulating bore, which naturally makes me quite angry.

"Reviewing the above, you threaded after taking offence to Mink’s comment on Jewish people (which I will not engage)."

1. I was never in favor of the Jew/Nazi jokes, nor the pedophilia, but when in Rome...besides, you can waste your life here typing up a real reply only to have it largely ignored.

2. What really got Bullit's panties aflame is something said in another thread, wherein, for no cause or reason, he decided to deliberately annoy me with his Euro-bigotry. So you missed that little escapade down the rabbit's hole.
minkowski writes:

Another thing you have to understand, Mr. Blonde, is that some people feel the need to climb to the top of the sh*t heap, here, so they either do that as a troll, or they do that through attacks on other members. They think if can take down a regular, they get to take their place in the hierarchy, which is of course naturally stupid, vane and pointless, but it apparently hasn't stopped numerous lurkers and even regular posters from trying.
Mr. Blonde writes:

Actually, any sane, rational individual would think the apparent lull in hostilities would indicate a cessation of any and all conflict, at least superficially, yet you seemed determined to reignite them for your own opaque reasons, which to me signals you're an emotionally unstable individual, or as they say in the psychological profession, labile, which is not to confused with labia, not that you would ever make the connection and/or distinction.

Hi, my name is Ranger... and this is MY opinion about a movie. Read it and know it... because I KNOW MOVIES! Really? How do people know that? Will they make assumptions as to my intelligence based on my post's grammar... humor... clever use of the double entendre?

@mink - most sites 'have their time' in the sun. It's like a bar losing it's theme, closing down, renovating... starting anew.

I don't see Alex complaining. And his opinion here is the only one what matters.

@mink - mainstream TV doesn't have the balls to make anything controversial, they have to cater to the type of sponsors they have. That's why people that like better TV (not milk fed) have driven the success of 'AMC' and 'Showcase' and 'HBO'.

I guess you're right, Ranger. That's the American attitude. Nothing matters but money, and it is, in large part, why we as a nation are despised throughout the world, rather than respected...

"mainstream TV doesn't have the balls to make anything controversial"

Controversy used to refer to something, a thought, a concept, that provoked thought through challenging conventional thought and wisdom, rather than employing repellent and distasteful opinion as a form of a 'comedy'.

But you're right again: Americans apparently can no longer tell the difference between the two. Or they don't care to do so.

True, they, these interloping visitors, might stick around, but I have to question whether anyone actually comes here to read you and others, including myself as of late, talking about raping children.

Sure, folks like Bullit apparently find such conversation(s) interesting, unless it comes form me, but most people, people that I know anyway, mainstream people, find the conversation, even in jest, enormously repulsive.

So, at the end of the day, the people that continue to come here for the 'jokes' aren't the mainstream, but more of what one might label 'depraved'.

Regardless, you seem to take credit single-handedly for 'growing' Alex's business, and all I can say is that seems to speak more of your ego, which is your business and certainly not mine, as I have my own ego with which to contend, and less of the actual reality as I perceive it.

Far be it for me to challenge that notion.

'enormously repulsive' - sells and makes $ in America.

The calm and boring does not.

I don't see how I'm single-highhandedly taking credit for growing WP.

Yes, and the entire point of the film Wall Street was to promote the diametrically opposite view...

Indeed. Don't we all. They're called 'life'.

You should try living instead of hiding within your sheltered existence.

Some suffering would do you and your perspective some damned good.

My sudden mood changes, as you seem to perceive them through your atomic portal of the internet is a reflection of the mercurial nature of life.

You sound like a petulant child. Grow the f*ck up. Bragging on here you got laid. I bet you were one of those fat ugly nerd f*cks in school that couldn't get laid so you went out and made enough money to buy a bitch, and now you have to let the world know your d*ck slipped into some whore's twat.

And? Do you subscribe to any notion higher than that? God, morality, ethics, decency? I mean, hell, I often ignore them to cope, but ultimately I do believe in some of them.

Or I like to think I do.

So, then, screaming, bleeding child porn performed by Auschwitz Jews is the future of American entertainment, then?

Great. Let me find that deserted island so you and all the rest can go French Revolution insane by yourself.

God, morality, ethics, decency?

I do... but that's personal.

Hatred does garner more attention mink. That's a sad fact of the human race (American's don't hold a patent on that). Greed makes the world go around. That's a sad fact. NONE of us need the size of TV's we own... we could have gotten by and sent the other half to a hungry child around the world (some of us have done both), never to be thanked, nor to see the benefit of such a donation... but most people don't. People with no lives, nor net worth somehow supported a talentless (yet well-advised) hack like Kim Khardasian to make $65mil. a year. Yet the person that gives up all to make only food to build homes for the poor gets no recognition.

Bush and Cheney spent how much of the US economy to use the military machine to crush Iraq to use private (Cheney) Haliburton to rebuild it?

How many people would slow down their car, or even stop (risking a mulch-vehicular pile-up) to see if any bodies are visible in the car wreckage of the on-coming lane, yet how many would take the time to help an old lady cross the street?

How MUCH has been written about the Nazi's, the Jew Hunters (they have their own show), and how little is covered by those doing good on this planet (excluding: Extreme Makeover - Home Edition)?

How much news coverage had Lindsay Lohan received snubbing the law? How much did O.J.'s trial receive? Yet someone saving another, or an animal is the last story of the news (trying to cheer us up after 20 minutes of depressing, sad news) or the last page in the newspaper.

I'm the FIRST to admit the system sucks. Governments are corrupt. Cameron and Lucas are greedy (good for them)... they both have seen some of my money, yours and everyone on here I'll bet.

But... it's the only planet we have. I'll save my good and decent side for those close to me.

Here on WP if I see a good project, I'll praise the hell out of it (even when sometimes it goes against the grain on here). I won't go against the grain just for attention. MANY threads I was the first of many already made saying: 'I actually like this idea' or 'don't like it' going against the general population. But (if memory serves) I ALWAYS give my reasons. And I never draw 'first blood' on here until someone makes a personal attack in my direction (usually they can't handle the attention I get on here and/or can handle a differing opinion). I don't need to be right on here, or heard, and I couldn't care less if some disagree with me. I'm on here for completely selfish reasons. To indulge myself. If some like me for that... great. If some hate me for that... great. I sleep just fine at night, with a very clear conscience (and sometimes a boner, that I roll on, then wake up because I may have really damaged something).

No, actually, it's not.

Bullit clearly showed a deep deference for you making pedophilia jokes, yet upbraided me for it. That's d*ck-sucking, the kind of emo-c*nt inconsistency I'd expect to get from a bitch. Which he is.

As for trailer trash, who else does he talk to but you? Cinema? Yeah, they're Brits, so there's that.

It's the cult of Ranger, and that's cool, but don't deny there's people on here just to hear you make a sh*t or pedophile joke, people that would disappear if you died. They don't give a damn about film, really, they just come for the collective 'depravity'.

As for Jew jokes... we haven't exclusively picked on the Hebs on here. Nuns haven't escaped our 'humor' on here (hell, they haven't escaped my basement). No one (in particular) has been picked on exclusively.

Coming from a lonely, lying sociopath of your kind, it's not really insulting. And you're a racist too, seeing how you're judging Italy. No, I'm not a wap but I grew up with them and they're my mates.

You won't have the last word, finocchio di merda. You want me to drop dead? Be carefull what you wish for, Kharma is a funny thing. You're the one cycling (without the saddle) for 20 miles a day and I can easily picture you on a hit & run scene and seeing you dying slowly but surely.

So, YOU're holding a grudge agaisnt me for that reason? Honestly, that wasn't my intention.

You took me far too seriously about that and frankly, I didn't know that you are so hyper sensitive about yourself even through the bloody internet. Jesus-Christ! It doesn't take much to go at war with you. About me & Ranger, you clearly behaving like a jealous child, grow up will you.
minkowski writes:

I want you to pay close attention here, because I'm not going to repeat myself.

I couldn't care less who you suck off, Bullit, because Ranger has plenty of hanger-ons, and the only ways that matters to me is when it overrides movie discussion, and when someone reacts differently to something I've said versus another person saying the same thing, or worse, and that is precisely what you did, and I'm going to call you out on it because I can't stand hypocrisy.

It's cowardly and sickening, and you clearly have a bad case of both.

"Be carefull what you wish for, Kharma is a funny thing. You're the one cycling (without the saddle) for 20 miles a day and I can easily picture you on a hit & run scene and seeing you dying slowly but surely.

1. I've been hit plenty, but I'm a far better rider these days.

2. Quite the Christian attitude, I see. You hope I get hit and die slowly, yet you talk about Christ, and yet you wonder why you suck, a sucking you then project on to people that aren't the hypocrite you are (see above).

And, as an atheist, I certainly wouldn't wish upon you what you've wished upon me, which also repeats what I'm going to say below: you've taken this matter far, far more seriously than I would have ever dared to dream.
________________________________________________

"And you're a racist too, seeing how you're judging Italy."

Three things:

1: Italy is a country, not a race.

2. Italians are loosely a people with a shared history, not a race.

3. I criticized Italy's court system, not either Italy or Italians.

4. You're quite clearly too stupid to argue with me, and quite obviously you've made your money running drugs or pimping whores because you don't have the brains to make money doing anything else.

5:

"No, I'm not a wap but I grew up with them and they're my mates."

So you call me a racist because I criticize Italy's court system, but you call them waps/wops? lol.

Again, tiredly, projection and hypocrisy from you. That's all you are. A hollow little shell filled with small-minded bigotry and petty grievances, and inveterate need to make everyone else guilty of your failings.
________________________________________________

"So, YOU're holding a grudge agaisnt me for that reason? Honestly, that wasn't my intention."

Intent implies thought. I'm not sure I can give you that much credit.
________________________________________________

"Coming from a lonely, lying sociopath of your kind"

1. You don't even know the definition of a sociopath, seeing as how you clearly cannot read more than Tin-Tin comics, and if you could, the definition would clearly apply more to you than me, seeing as how the basic definition of a sociopath is a smooth, glib narcissistic person who only pretends to have emotions and feel for others. As you can possibly imagine, that's fafr more you than me.

2. I don't lie. I'm far too lazy. It's easier to call them like I see them and watch all hell break loose. I don't think *anyone* here would stand with you on that matter at all.

3. Back to 1. Just because I don't care to cater to your effeminate attitudes and hyper-sensitivity doesn't mean I'm some clinical case.

Your silly emotions don't mean jack to me, and if you can't man up and hang with the *men* here, you don't belong.

Perhaps instead you should go get your hair and nails done, or fluff for whatever porn they have other in whatever sh*t-hole country in which you live, because WP is for men, and tough women, not f*cking sissies.
______________________________________________

"I didn't know that you are so hyper sensitive about yourself even through the bloody internet."

Again, projection. Projecting on to me your juvenile behaviors, when in fact, unlike you, I've spent most of my time laughing at your small, petty ways, and please, spare me, don't say otherwise, don't claim to have done the same, because long after I had forgotten about you entirely, you were still holding a deep-seated grudge waiting to strike back, a fact to which you not only happily admitted, you even crowed about it as if to say, 'ha look at me, I don't *ever* forget', and all over the f*cking internet, all over some asinine conspiracy theory of yours which I justifiably derided as ignorant and inept.
______________________________________________

In short, no pun intended, you're a very little man, Bullit, and reconfiguring me into you may work for you in real life, with respect to your enemies, but I am *not* you, thank your imaginary god, just I am the same age as you.

I do hope you've really read what I've written, although I have zero hope any of it will have affected your thinking, because you're quite clearly hopelessly lost in your own mental world: irrational, non-thinking, caught up in grudges and grievances, a mind clouded by hate and a hunger to avenge your own shortcomings.

I guess I should say good luck to you. Well, good luck.

minkowski writes:

Bullit writes:

Monsieur Minkowski:

I don't have much time as we're going out.

I've read your endless web page and to make it short, you're wrong on every single line.

I am also too lazy to lie as I am a man of my word: I don't lie and I can't stand hypocrisy but your deduction from your analysis is wrong. I can easily admit my weakness points but none of them are stated above.

I appreciate you don't call me by names as I don't like it either. You're supposed to be an educated man so, don't prove me wrong.

You mastered in derogatory comments but it's ok as long it makes you happy, I don't care because you don't know me and you'll probably never will and I'm not here to talk about my special experience in life to you or anybody. Although it culd be interesting but this is a movie site.

Let's put an end to this useless diatribe/tirade. IF I have offended you before this and it wasn't my intention, I'm sorry.

That's it.
