Marvel Unveils New "The Avengers" PosterSubmit Comment
Marvel has unveiled a brand new poster for "The Avengers," featuring a shot of all the heroes, including an extremely tall Captain America. Check out the poster below and come back tomorrow (Wednesday, February 29th) to see the new trailer.

Plot: Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in "Iron Man," "The Incredible Hulk," "Iron Man 2," "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger," in Marvel's "The Avengers," the world's greatest Super Heroes must assemble to pull the world back from the brink of disaster when an unexpected enemy threatens global security.

"The Avengers" is directed by Joss Whedon (Serenity) and is set to hit theaters on May 4th.

Looks like The Avengers has assembled, while The Hulk is out back cruising for a piece of ass.

Good or bad, I'll take in this movie (I have waited decades for this).

Captain America and Hawkeye see a sexy construction worker across the street just before the photographer took this shot.

I actually don't think this is very good at all. The lighting is forced and RDJr's face is forcefully photoshopped. In fact all the Marvel movie posters from Ironman on are sorta crap. For a comic book company, their art department sucks.
JakeVermont writes:

@WV: yeah thats exactly what millions around the world will think when they see this, that the lighting is wrong and the faces are photoshopped..... eh, NO!

Oh and Black Widows ass is facing in the wrong direction compared to other posters.... what happened?

Is the poster designer even trying? It looks similar to the Watchmen poster.

@rising_son

Good to know I wasn't the only one that saw this and thought, "Obvious someone was looking at the poster for 'The Watchmen' when they made this."

I agree with the other posts, this is lousy Photoshop work (and I would know, I'm a professional graphic artist), not to mention a terrible use of perspective. Not as bad as last year's 'X-Men: First Class' posters, but high up there with some pretty lousy ones.

lol. I like how, out of all the criticisms no one noticed that Captain America is four stories tall! LMAO!

So is this the Incredible Shrinking Avengers and Caps didn't get any magical Kool-Aid or what? AWFUL.

And yeah, Iron Man's head, yeah that doesn't look right, does it? All that gleaming metal and his face looks like it's caught in the Batmobile's headlights.

"Oh and Black Widows ass is facing in the wrong direction compared to other posters.... what happened?"

I have no clue as to what you refer, Jake. All the characters here are looking in one of two directions, which is meant to break up the composition so they're not all looking stupidly at something off-canvas none of us can see, which of course makes sense.

As for the lighting, it's pretty consistent, coming from the right, or their left, so that's not too bad, but what is off is the terrible saturation loss towards the back, which I am guessing is meant to give the composition atmospheric haze, thus depth, via something like sfumato, when instead they should have used chiaroscuro, or nothing at all.

"not to mention a terrible use of perspective."

The poster has a fine one-point perspective, for the buildings, but what throws it off, what's really hurting the poster, and what no one seems to notice, is that the characters aren't consistent in height and size, and where they're positioned doesn't seem to help them either.

This was something like a drag and drop. Take a background, possibly from another film, one without characters but plenty of wreckage, and drop in some cut-out Marvel character images, possibly from film grabs or promo shots, but because the lighting *is* consistent, I'm inclined to believe either someone went to a lot of time finding the right images, or this is Marvel's work.

All in all, it isn't a very good job, and had the goon who did the work maintained a believable consistency in height and positioning, none of us would have much to say about it in the negative.

this poster sucks. has lots of noticeable flaws in it. screw the concept placing the real leader of the team at the back, should i say background. it's not even enough that Mr. Downey's name is already first in the billing he also had to take the lead just because he's Robert Downey. come on everybody know's it's Cap who should be on the center not the Tin Man.
