Lawsuit Reveals Chris Pine's Film SalariesPosted: February 15th, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  Chris Pine has been sued by his former talent agency, SDB Partners, which claims that it is being denied millions of dollars in commissions, despite being responsible for securing the actor some of the most sought-after roles in Hollywood.
In the lawsuit, SDB says that whey they turned Pine into an A-list actor, he agreed to stay with the company, stating: "I'm a firm believer in loyalty." But two years later, Pine decided to go to a bigger agency and thus dropped SDB. But he did it by email, even though they've had a nine year relationship.
The lawsuit also reveals Pine's compensation for some of his recent and upcoming projects.
* Unstoppable: $3 million
* This Means War: $5 million, plus $1 million deferred compensation
* Star Trek 2: $1.5 million, plus up to $500,000 in back-end
* Star Trek 3 (if it happens): $3 million, plus $500,000 in back-end and 5% of net merchandise revenue
* Moscow (Jack Ryan installment): $4 million, plus back-end
* Moscow 2 (if it happens): $8 million, plus back-end
* Moscow 3 (if it happens): $12 million, plus back-end
* Welcome to People: $750,000, plus $4.25 million in possible bonuses

Holy sh*t, no wonder Denzel was laughing so much in Unstoppable. The key grip is making more than this poor guy. Can't blame him for switching agencies.

Guess he didn't suck the right amount on the casting couch.

Loyalty? Yeah, right! "..it's not show friends, it's show business.."
It really wasn't Pune's fault SDB was small poatotoes. SDB was unable to secure financial contracts, getting payouts that were sub par & since SDB also works on comission, they were BOTH, losing money...
Pine couldn't afford it anymore, financially or career wise & as they say in Hollywood, "you are worth what you get paid for..."
Having said that, Pine'a move through the e-mail was kinda douche-y for services provided for 9 years, helping him get a start on the business...

I don't canning someone via email (regardless of the length of business relationship). It's in writing, avoids all that he said this or that. Email is the new(er) letter writing.
Pine is successful, and I like the job he did in Star Trek. But 'A-Lister'? Brad Pitt is an A-Lister (clearly).

I bet those salaries for Star Trek sequels were negotiated before Star Trek became a $250 mil. monstro. The contract must've been renegotiated since then.
So it'll be more like:
Star Trek $500,000 + % of up-the-butt
Star Trek 2 - $5 mil. + small back-end
Star Trek 3 - $8-10 mil.
Dude still makes a sh*tload of money. Good for him.

Yep. They lock these actors in (that of course want the roles - like Evans as Capt. America) for really, really cheap (multi-movie contracts), even when they're pretty sure it'll be a sequel franchise. I'd do the same with actors (ie: meat puppets).

@ Ranger:
I don't think Pine is an A-Lister either, but yeah Pitt, Cruise, Stallone, Jolie, Schwarznegger, Willis...they're all A Listers.
Not that great actors, but A-Listers none the less. (exception of Jolie)
Cheers, mate...

Only 3 mil for Star Trek 2? That seems ludicrously low. The first one made a mint, and it seems like they would throw way more at its star for his return. Hrm...so weird. Granted, 3 million for one job is plenty, no matter the job. And those 5% merch checks will be quite a sum.

But still, C. Pines is getting f*cked as he shows more talent than some A-listers.

although the star trek salary seems a bit low, the rest of the salaries seem pretty normal. pine is a decent actor but he's not a massive draw- people don't go to movies to see HIM, specifically. my guess is that the star trek salary is low because they inked the sequel salaries long before anybody knew who the f*ck he was- and let's face it, he would've starred in a JJ Abrams movie for free at that point.
as for the agency in the suit, f*ck em. agents are all a bunch of piece of sh*t leeches; if Pine had no contractural obligation other than telling them 'he believes in loyalty,' then he's got no legal reason to stay with them. if some other agency can do it better, then that's where he needs to go...

Wonder what's Pine's take on this?
Question: "So what happened, Chris?"
Answer: "Bitches didn't have my money...can't nobody hold me down."
So there you have it, folks. Acting (and pimpin') ain't easy...
