Live-Action "The Jetsons" Movie is Moving Forward

Live-Action "The Jetsons" Movie is Moving ForwardSubmit Comment
Producer Donald De Line (Green Lantern, The Italian Job) is still hard at work on "The Jetsons," a live-action movie based on the 1960s TV cartoon show that was originally in development at the same time as "Yogi Bear."

According to Variety, Van Robichaux and Evan Susser have just been hired to re-write "The Jetsons" script, which has had several writers, including Adam F Goldberg (Aliens in the Attic).

Back in 2009, Robert Rodriguez was attached to direct the film. Then Peter Segal (Get Smart, Anger Management) stepped in to replace him. Right now, a direct has yet join the production.

Robichaux and Susser co-wrote "Chewie," a fake biopic about Peter Mayhew, the man who played Chewbacca, and his time on the set of "Star Wars." Their script made it to Hollywood's 2011 Black List, which is a list of the best unproduced screenplays.

I knew this will happen. It'll be the same crap just like the Flintstones.

The original Flintstones was entertaining, but the sequel and Yogi Bear were horrible. I have no idea what to expect from this project.

Watch Jursassic Shark instead. You know what you're getting in advance.

Tittays and really bad CG.

I think this could work, actually. The Flinstones suffered poor casting, but worse, it suffered from the fact that even CGI can't depict a foot-driven rock-hewn car with any aplomb.

With the Jetsons being being set in the future, and with the magic of current vfx, I could see how this just might work if the producers aim for a script aimed at parodying the cartoon, rather than seriously entertaining any of the original material's elements.

I wouldn't want to write the screenplay, though. Very, very tricky to get right, but then again, getting it right isn't exactly a modern filmmaker's most important ambition.

Jane! Stop this crazy thing!

The way to go with this one, I'm thinking a sh*tload of greenscreen for the "modern/ futuristic" environment and CGI for the dog and robot...

As for the story, it'll probably be half introducing the characters for the kids "not in the know" followed by a cheesy sitcom plot stretched to (I hope only) 90 min.
