"Jackie Brown" Prequel Casts John Hawkes and Mos Def Posted: February 1st, 2012 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
The prequel to Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" is moving forward and has now cast its two main leads, John Hawkes (Winter's Bone, Contagion) and Mos Def (16 Blocks, Be Kind Rewind) who will play younger versions of Robert De Niro and Samuel L Jackson. The story is based on Elmore Leonard's "The Switch" book and is set 15 years before the events in "Jackie Brown." It follows career criminals Ordell and Louis as they team up to kidnap Mickey Dawson, the wife of a corrupt Detroit real estate developer. When the husband refuses to pay the ransom for his wife's return, the ex-cons are forced to reconceive their plan, and the angry housewife uses the duo to get her revenge. The new movie will be directed by Dan Schechter, whose "Supporting Characters" is currently making the festival rounds. Check out the trailer for the movie below.

Had no idea we needed a prequel.

Jackie Brown stunk as a Tarantino film, and it's saying something when Q-man can't make something you can at least tolerate.
A prequel? Go f*ck yourself silly.

Whaaaat? A Jackie Brown prequel?...without QT & the original cast? Sacrilege!! This has so many shades of f*cked up, its not even funny...
The only reason this is happening is that's not really a QT property. Jackie came from a Elmore Leonard book, that QT spiffed up & made into a movie...
I really doubt they'll be making it as a mature cool, old school feel of black exploitation like Coffy, Cleopatra Jones etc...
BTW, f*ck this, if any QT movie should get a prequel is The Gekko bros. from Dusk 'till Dawn...the rumors were always circulating, but forgotten...

Jackie Brown is a damn fine film.
Mos Def and John Hawkes? Yes please.

the last time they did a sequel to an elmore leonard movie (Be Cool), it just sucks. of course the movies got two different directors.
now, a PRE-quel to an elmore leonard movie done by QUENTIN TARANTINO, nonetheless..by this new kid on the block of a director... now, i can picture John Hawkes (a Tarantino regular, or rather a Rodriguez regular) playing a younger Louis, by Mos Def as a younger ORDELL?? Sam Jackson played that character as one mean crazy sommamabitch...i dunno if Mos can do "mean crazy sommamabitch" like only Sam could.
