Stephen Amell Cast in "Arrow" TV Series, Based on Green Arrow SuperheroSubmit Comment
We recently heard that CW has been developing a new TV series called "Arrow," based on DC Comics' character Green Arrow and will be similar in tone to "Smallville." David Nutter is directing the pilot episode.

Deadline has now learned that the lead role has gone to Stephen Amell. He will plan the vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology under his secret identity as Oliver Queen, a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist-turned-outspoken politician in Star City.

Amell is a familiar face at the CW, having appeared on "The Vampire Diaries" and "90210." He most recently recurred on HBO's "Hung" and ABC's "Private Practice" and was one of the finalists to replace Andy Whitfield as the lead on "Spartacus."

'...will be similar in tone to "Smallville.' --- so every 2 out of 3 to 3 out of 4 episodes will go completely off message, so after viewing you can ask yourself 2 things:

1. WTF did I just watch? And...
2. How can I get that hour back into my life?

A piece of sh*t show for a piece of sh*t character which DC has woefully underdeveloped. For God Sake, just kill this project.

They should just make a spin-off of Smallville.
(Which was awesome you pricks)

@ror - Smallville had it moments, I'll give it that (only). But don't be blind to the face every 2-3 episodes was milking the series to make it to 10 years. I'd do the same were I a producer. But a 1-hour episode for Clark to discover he could 'super sneeze'... are they f*ckING KIDDING ME?!?! When they were ON message, there were dead on message. When they were off... it could have been a show about absolutely anything that week... and it sucked the hind tit. Be a fan, but don't be blinded by these facts.

@Dave... lol.

He worked on hung. Sounds like someone took a lesson or two from Thomas Jane. I bet his contract has atleant two Ham sandwich breaks per day with the producers

This will fail.

Green Arrow has virtually zero appeal, even among DC fans, no one knows Amell and he was hired more for his looks than his ability to lead a show.

Expect lots of coverage of his appearance to woo the ladies.

This will end with him getting an Arrow to the knee...

lol... nice.

Mink hit the the bullseye... this will fail.

Green Arrow is a sub-character like Wonder Woman.
