Matthew Vaughn Confirmed to Direct "X-Men: First Class" SequelSubmit Comment
Michael Fassbender previously confirmed that his contract forces him to return for more "X-Men: First Class" installments. So while most of the cast is expect to return for a sequel, it was assumed that director Matthew Vaughn would just produce this time.

Now comes word that 20th Century Fox has just closed a deal with Vaughn to bring him back to direct "First Class 2." Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes) will write the script and Bryan Singer is back as producer.

"X-Men: First Class" was released last year and went on to gross only $146 million domestically on a $160 million budget. The film, however, earned another $207 million international for a worldwide total of $353 million.

Hopefully, they won't pull an Iron Man/Hangover 2 and just make an easy, quick cash-in.

Just when I thought that sh*tty franchise would finally die a fiery death and be reborn as something glorious some day. Like the Phoenix.

12 years later these flicks still can't rise above mediocrity.

..and NO..just because 'First Class' was better than X3 does not make it a great film. Sorry.

Matthew Vaughn return is good . It's those X3 writers that piss me off.

It's nice that Fassbender feels "forced" to do a sequel. You just know his heart is in it, then.

First Class didn't do it for me like X-Men 2, but let's see what else Vaughn brings to the table...pressure is on!

he should direct X4, instead...the sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand.

This is good news, loved "First Class" can't wait for sequel.

@Avirex, excellent point. We've been beat in the head by so much waste from this franchise that 1st Class comes around and we praise it highly. Sure on it's own, it's a good film. But amongst the others in the franchise it's stellar.
Now the question is, will this sequel pull this franchise over the fence or will it be bad and remind us of all the crap we had to deal with before? But keeping the core intact is a good move. But I still don't like Fassbender's "forced" attitude.

the first one was a huge pile of sh*t.
buttabean writes:

I don't know how anyone can like the first one. It had its moments but man those supporting characters and FX were horrendous. How did this have a 160 million dollar budget??? more like half that. That had to be the biggest let down last year. I probably won't even rent the next one.

I'm still wondering just how the hell you f*ck up the X-Men.

the most important question: how could you dare turning the hellfire club into a bunch of stupid f*ckups with the most stupid background story ever?
