"The Grey" Director to Remake Charles Bronson's "Death Wish"

"The Grey" Director to Remake Charles BronsonSubmit Comment
Back in 2009, Sylvester Stallone revealed that he was focusing on remaking Charles Bronson's 1974 film "Death Wish," but now comes word that the project is moving forward. Stallone's involvement is unknown.

To push the project into development, MGM and Paramount Pictures hired Joe Carnahan to write and direct the remake. Carnahan is just coming off "The Grey," which topped the box office and is on track to become very profitable.

The original "Death Wish" revolves around Paul Kersey (Bronson), a liberal architect who morphs into an assassin after his wife and daughter are brutally attacked. Kersey then undertakes a one-man mission to hurt and kill a host of criminals on the streets of New York.

The movie was a cultural phenomenon and spawned four sequels in two decades.

only one man to play this character

Liam Neeson

@ Bill - I do see that coming to be honest, but after Taken? Surely its too similar. Hope they scrap this remake, The Grey looks pretty original (Should be seeing it any day now) so would be a shame if Joe goes from that to yet another remake.

they already remade this and its called Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon.

and if youre a feminist and support rug munchers. jodie foster starred in the Brave one.so there you have it.Pointless as f*ck.

and those Death wish movies were pretty bad is just Bronson killing people with a damn magnum.

Yeah Neeson is the obvious and best choice for the role.

I agree with AYT very similar to his character in Taken. Can't see him taking the part, But then he did make The Unknown straight after Taken.

Watching it tonight AYT, Looking forward to it.

Yeah Death Sentence pretty much was a DW remake.

I always thought the Death Wish movies sucked anyway. They wanted to be Dirty Harry films so bad but failed on almost every level.
bandolero999 writes:

they were only cool because it starred Bronson but thats about it.

@ Trailer - Let me know what you think mate!

@ Bill - No probs, hate all that petty sh*t, other than a few trolls on here its all more or less healthy debate.

Agreed ! Nuff said.

^^^^^^
i second that!

also i think holly wood should just start making more films that are relevant to our times as of now, i mean deathwish was a cultural phenomenon cuz it reflected it's
own time and its social conditions.

maybe they should focus on all this preditory bullsh*t thats going on in internet chatrooms ie "the killing" tv series.(im sure there is alot to go on with this subject matter)

idk but what do i know, u know lol

Were there ever a movie that DIDN'T need a remake, it's the first Death Wish.

Worse idea in a long time, from a LONG list of bad ideas.
Ranger writes:

Unless Paul Kersey is played by RoboCop... then I'd watch a re-make.
Ranger writes:

Maybe he'll move to San Fran, and be tracked by Dirty Harry.

@band
"it's just Bronson killing people with a dam magnum"

Which is pretty f*cking awesome. Also manly. But yeah, those movies were good thx mostly to Bronson and his epic manliness. His moustache had more testosterone than all the modern "action stars" combined. Aside from Neeson who isn't modern but timeless and doesn't need moustache.

Agree with tt: Death Wish should be left alone. Carnahan and Neesoncan find better projects to work on, The Grey being a prime example.

They've already spent their Bronson remake token on The Mechanic and although I liked that, there's no need to go hacking through another Bronson remake, especially Death wish. Personally, I hate the regular, untrained citizen turning vigilante plot. Especially when they get unrealistic with it and have this seemingly inexperienced civilian all of a sudden become an expert killing machine.
bandolero999 writes:

i just hope they stop with Bronson movies. It was already ruined by Statham with the Mechanic.I got the original and is a good movie.

next they will butcher 10 to midnight,Mr Majestic,Once upon a time in the West,Hard times,Death Hunt
Kurskij writes:

^no way on Hard Times. It's a favorite of mine and an undeservingly much forgotten gem. Walter Hill made great movies with terrific casts back in the day.
And was Bronson in spectacular shape for his or any age in this great picture.
Ranger writes:
on January 30th, 2012 at 1:58:01 PM

@Bunny - Kersey was a war vet and a Marksman in the Service, if memory serves.
Frank_Castle writes:

Thank you @Ranger, I've never seen the original ans assumed it was like all the others
Ranger writes:

If by original you mean the first one with Bronson... it's fab (gritty, realistic). The sequels (no disrespect to Mr. Bronson), was milking it to death.

Eventhough Tom Hardy would be good.

Get Neeson, I say!!!!
